Message: My concern for the higher wattage headlamps lies in the fact that, acording to the factory service manual for 2001, they are directly powered by the Timer Module using what I am assuming is an imbedded semiconductor "driver" as they label it. I would fear overheating the "driver" due to higher current level and damaging it, costing me a Timer Module replacement. I was thinking this may be why some of the bulbs recommend buying the harness kit that uses the stock wiring to drive a relay connected to the battery via a fuse.
The fog lamp circuit, however, is powered from the battery via a fuse and relay controlled circuit. I believe going to fog lamp bulbs that are under 80% of the fuse rating would be electronically safe. But being one of those who has had fog lamp lenses crack from the internal heat, I would think the fog lamp housing and lense would need to be replaced by an aftermarket unit, also.
