At 55k my front brakes make all kinds of noise, as if the pads have a lot of room to move around inside the caliper. I have replaced the pads and turned the rotors, and this really hasent helped the noises. anyone have any ideas???
Thanks !

Message: Get new rotors, the stock ones are junk. Most dakotas dont makes 30k or 40k with the stock ones. As for myself I just got new rotos and pads last week at 55k also and it made a world of difference. Hope this helps!

Message: Jase,
Check out all the strings for Powerslot rotors and Hawk pads. Several in the performance and general boards.

Message: I have 42K miles on mine. I checked run out of both discs a couple months ago and it was well within specs. And there's plenty of pad left, too. I had a little bit of brake squeal last summer when it was really hot. But I gnored it for a few weeks and it went away.
You have to figure out why your brakes were making all that noise before you start replacing parts. Disc brake squeal is pretty common. It's usually caused by the pad vibrating in the caliper. Usually the outside pad. The fix is pretty easy, and should cost less than $3.
Get a tube of blue Permatex disc brake anti-squeal. Remove both pads from the caliper. Clean the metal to metal contact areas on the back of the pads and the matching areas on the calipers really well. Apply a small amount of Permatex blue junk in the contact areas, and re-assemble. Allow the truck to sit overnight before applying the brakes for the first time. That usually fixes it.
While I'm at it, I usually hit the discs and pad surfaces with a little 600 grit sandpaper and clean with brake cleaner.
I have not had to do that with my Dakota yet. But I had a '95 Ram 1500 that I had to do that to every year. Never replaced the discs on that truck, either.
