Subject: EVERY ONE THAT HAD THE LEAKY PASSENGER IP: Logged
Message: My local 5 star dealer is trying to tell me that this isn't a recurring problem in the daks. They finally fixed on the second time, but the nasty mildew smell remains and my carpet is rough and obviuosly deteriorated compared to the drivers side. I was hoping that everyone that has had this problem could list their Location, Truck Model, Year, etc....

Mine had AC drain problem. Co-workers 00 passenger floor board is a lake. He hasn`t looked in to it though, just lives with it?
I`m in SE MA if it helps.
I think a search would give you better results.
Good Luck,

Eric, don't fall for that changed underside carpet, there is no under side, its all one piece, carpet and backside. I had the same problem first they told me that it was the rear window, removed and resealed and I still had the problem, finally with a floor full of water I drove to the dealer, a mechanic happened to walk by while I was talking to the service advisor, he knew the problem right away, the hole where the drain tube exits the firewall is larger than the drain tube, the drain tube sticks straight out, does not 90 degree down, while driving the wind forces the water back inside the cab, he sealed the opening and the water on floor problem was solved, service advisor told me they dried the carpet and changed the jute backing, when I got home looked under the carpet and there is no jute backing, the backing is attached to the carpet. Back to the dealer, they ordered and installed new carpet, no problems since.
I have since read in another forum that DC has come out with an adaptor that attaches to the drain tube with a clamp and turns down, I have been trying to get a part # for this adaptor just in case but so far have not been able to identiy it

Message: Yeah, we repacked the muffler bearings while we were at it too. How do you like the song and dance from the Dodge Service Department.
The carpet is bonded to the 1/2" foam backing, no way to replace the backing. Well unless they want to spent 4 hours with a razor blade cutting the backing off.

Message: A dealer fixed my01 qc, and a friends CC, had to take it back though for them to dry out the carpet, haven't looked in a long time for the water, kinda like halloween, too scared to find it again, but the smell hasn't come back, so I think it's OK.

jeremy, I used the puter, at the service writers desk to show him about this problem, by the posts on this site!

Message: I have a 97 EXT cab and it has had the perma leak on to the passengerside floor. I took it to the dealer 8 times and I think they never even tried to fix it. Their answer was "we can't get it to leak. Well I have done everything possible to try to figure out where my "On Dakota Pond" is comming from and I think after 4 years of having the carpet pulled back I figured it out. See I got to Warren assembly almost every day to inspect Dakotas and Rams. I looked at a number of Dakotas around the rear window and where the sheetmetal is spot welded down the bacl of the cab. Well on the new ones comming off the line there is a body colored silicone seal that I noticed my truck is missing so I am going to try to seal that up and hope the pond stops.

Message: I fixed mine by resealing the weather stripping on the passenger door. There was a leak on the top that let water into the seal. It would then gather at the back of the door and weap out of the air holes.
I have also read where the seal at the cowl and the bottom of the windshield has failed. Also, those with a 3rd breaklight have found it to leak. My 92 doesn't have a 3rd light.

Message: jeremy, you need to find a post that was active a few months ago on the leak. It contained dozens of replies. Take this to the dealer, or have 'em access it from their 'puters as Todd said. Be persistent, but not obnoxious (<-:...this is a fine line that most haven't figured out yet...), and your problem should get solved.

Message: '01 CC, Two leaks. I cured the blowback problem with the A/C drain by fabricating a drain tube with an elbow to dump the water straight down. The windshield leak was also on the passenger side and I just resealed it with liquid sealer.

Message: I had the A/C leak problem as well. I have a 2002 R/T. They got the correct part and changed my carpet out free of charge...which is what should have happened. If they have any questions tell them to call Virginia Beach Dodge, (757) 463-6100, they knew about my problem right away.

Message: My GF's 2002 QC had a leak that was noticeable on the rear passenger side seatbelt. I could jam my hand under the plastic interior piece and feel water against the body panel. We took the truck to our local dealer and I inspected the weld between the roof and the rear side panel with the service manager. We found what seemed to be a small gap in the bead, so they sealed it with silicone and also found that the rear window was leaking (I don't remember if it was the rear side window or the rear window). They replaced the window seals and I haven't noticed the problem since. The rain is just about to start back up here in CA, so I'll be able to check in a bit.

Message: Here's the link for the longest and most detailed thread regarding this problem. I tried to dry out my carpet for over a week, but it still had moisture in it. I installed an elbow on the firewall drain tube, but I was sick of the truck by that time, so I traded the truck and cut my losses. I live in Kansas City.
