Hello,

I own a 95 Dodge Dakota 4WD 3.9L and during an engine rebuild damaged the Engine Oil Dip Stick Tube. I purchased a new tube from the local Dodge dealer under P/N 53009663. The new tube is about 6 inches longer than the original and instead of non-tapered entry has a bell shaped flared entry, because of this the stick doesn't fit the tube properly and is too short to check the oil level. The original engine oil dipstick P/N 53020057 (stamped on the stick) also has a bell shaped shroud at the t-handle pull. I have asked two dealers to double check both part numbers with the Dodge Parts Tech Center, and both times the P/N are correct and the oil tube part has been verified to be correctly tagged by calling another stocking dealer and comparing overall lengths. I have also orderd a new dip stick thinking the new part would be longer and fit into the tube properly, but to my frustration does not, it is exactly the same one I already have. If in fact there is a revised dipstick it would have an o-ring on the t-handle end and fit into the inside of the bell shaped oil tube rather tha over the outside of the tube. Can someone with a 95-97 Dakota with a 3.9L or knowledge of this problem let me know their configuration and if your dipstick matches my description reply with the P/N. Thanks in advance.

I assume that the 5.2 dipstick has been checked for proper length?

Can you get the correct dipstick for your incorrect tube?

Would it not be easier to hit the junk yards and get both a tube and dip stick that match???

You could also use a tubing cutter to shorten your new dipstick tube to match your original. This would also take care of the tapered end problem.

Good luck.

No I was not able to check a 5.2 dipstick for length at this time, need to make another trip to the dealer.

Dodge says I have the correct dipstick to match the tube, there is no other available.

In response to xmr:
I tried the junk yards, they don't like selling dipsticks from sellable engines.

In response to JZ:
Yes thats a good idea, I will do it as a last resort, unfortunatley I tossed the old one.

Thanks to all so far for your timely input.
