Subject: Shocks? What brand should I go with? IP: Logged
Message: Hey all,
My, 01 Quad Cab has about 52,000 miles now, I just ordered new tires last night (Bridgstone Dueler A/T with Uni-T), but I also want to change the shocks. I occasionally haul some weight in the back (cases of booze, kegs, etc.) and was wondering what shocks anyone would recommend for a comfortable ride but yet support for hauling some weight.
Thanks,

Message: I have the RoadMaster Active Suspension and KYB Monomax shocks. The ride is a little stiffer but feels sportier. With the active suspension the back end handles turns much easier. As for hauling, this might have been stupid for me to do but I hauled a two tons (4,000lbs) in two seperate loads of tile for about 3 miles a trip. Did I notice the load, yes the rear end was down pretty good but a little below level with the front. Still accelerated fine but I was a bit concerned about the tires.
My truck specs are in my profile.

Message: I just rebuilt the front end on my 97 4X4 Dakota. I bought the Koni orange colored shock the set cost me 300 dollars for all four. It was the best money have spent on that truck. The shocks can be ajusted meaning you can ajust the firmness of the shocks. I left mine on the factory setting. The ride is 1000% better. It is a firm ride but is NOT kidney buster firm. The ride is a lot tighter and is almost sports car like in turns and I have 31 X 10.5 off road tires on it.

Message: I have Rancho RS5000's on mine for about a year or so. Tremendous improvement in handeling. Slightly stiffer ride, but not horrible. Feels like a light truck. I got them when Summit was having a sale, 25% off. Are there better shocks? Yeah, I bet there are. But not for the money. I only paid $150 for 4. Installation was a breeze, BTW. Make sure you grease those poly bushings well with the correct grease, or you'll regrete it later.

Message: Hey bigolds98, do you do any towing? I'm wondering how those Koni's would feel with a 4000 lb trailer strapped on.

Message: I bought the Monroe Reflex for my 2000 r/t a month or so ago when the had them on sale . I think I ended up paying $140 after the rebate for all 4 . Much better than the stocks . Not to stiff yet a tad firmer than the stockers but anything is stiffer than a limp noodle shock like the stock shocks !! They do the job quit well !

Message: I would say that most of the shocks named above are good to very good. But, I have Bilsteins - and I don't think they can be beat. Another good shock is the Edelbrock IAS mono tube.

Message: Hey mikeb. I just put the Koni shocks on the truck. I have not had a chance yet to tow yet. But I tow a 24 foot Rinker boat with my truck. The boat is over 5000 pounds and it pulled it great with the stock shocks. Unfortunatly I put the boat away for the year. I can say though the Koni shocks are a bit more than a lot of the others out there. But after one week with the new shocks I can say they were worth every penny. I wish I could have ordered the truck like this right from the factory. And no I don't work for Koni. I am just a happy customer. Here is the web site I bought them from. www.shox.com. Feel free to email with anymore questions.
