I owe just under 17,000 on my 2002 sxt. I've been wanting to trade the truck in and i was wondering how that works. Would I have to get a totally new loan if I didn't go back to dodge?

The problem you have is that you may owe more than it is worth in trade. Negative equity. If you get a '03 Dakota, there is a $4500 rebate. 2004's have $2500. This may erase the bad equity problem. You will need a new loan regardless of who you finance with.

i understand what your saying, but thats not the case. I owe 16,700 and i've been offered 17,500. The problem is this car i want is on ebay. If it were at the dodge dealer, then we could just refinance or what ever. I'm starting to think i'm not going to be able to make the deal in time.

Oh, ok. Ebay. The seller should hold the vehicle until financing is secured, but you still have to unload your old Dakota. Have you contacted the seller about payment? Is this vehicle being listed by a Dodge dealer by any chance?

You're going to have to get a new loan anyway, unless your dealer is doing something really tricky. Contact the eBay seller, let them know you are in the process of selling your vehicle and may need a little extra time to pay them. Then sell your truck for 17.5 as you said was offered, go to your bank or credit union and get a new loan. This shouldn't be a problem unless you've had some recent financial crisis. Do some internet credit union research if you don't already belong to one, they're usually a bit more friendly about these things.

Thanks fella's. I've had this truck for a year and a half and at the time my credit was awful. I was able to finance this truck because a friend of a freind at the dodge dealer put his neck on the line for me. So for a year and a half I've made perfect payments so hopefully I'll be able to get a loan from a different company. We'll see I guess. Unfortunatly it's not at a dodge dealer, that would have made this whole thing so simple. Anyways, thanks again for the help.
