Subject: Rim Width Question
IP: Logged

Message:
I have 16x8 rims on my truck. I can get a great deal from a guy in town selling aftermarket 16 x 10 rims that will fit my truck. My question is, what effect will going from a 8" to a 10" rim have on my truck, tires, etc? Why do people get larger width rims? I don't know much about rims.

Are they 6 lug? More than 5 1/2" backspacing? 10" width may work on stock suspension, but may cut the sidewalls on a lowered truck's fender edges.

Why would you get 16x10 inch rims - if you are going to swap you'd be better to go up in diameter to fill all the empty wheel well space. Also, believe me, getting tires to fit 10 inch wide rims isn't easy. If I had to do it all over again I would get 18x9, or larger, but not wider. You have to go really low profile in front to be able to turn your wheels...even with 40 series tires I still have some rubbing at the extremes of the turn radius.
