Subject: Rear End Pinion Seal IP: Logged
Message: No results from search on this subject. My '01 4.7 5-speed 3:92 LSD has developed a slight leak at the front of the rear end. 65K on the truck, changed fluid in rear with friction modifier at 40K. I plan to get it fixed; just wondering if this is rare on Gen III's?

Message: I have a 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab w/ 5-speed V8 engine, 90k miles. There is a "thump" noise when you release the accelerator during travel. It occurs when you release the accelerator to slow down. Appears to be coming from the engine compartment. Anyone have a similar problem - or know if this is a problem?

Message: The pinion seal problem was a fluid leak only; no noise or vibration issue. I have a 5-speed as well. I believe the clunk you hear when you lift off the gas while cruising or going downhill in cruise control, is simply "driveline slack". It's normal, don't worry. With 3/4 full fuel tank, upon acceleration, you may hear a clunk, which is a shortage of baffles in the tank.
