I installed a 180 degree thermostat the other night and now the temp guage wont herdly come off of the cold line. Everything is working fine...Heater works great, thermostat is opening and closing. The guage used to read right in the middle but now it barly makes it off of the first line. Does 15 degrees make that much differance in the guage reading??? It had a 195 Degree in it
Thanks
Buck

In my briggs and straton, it made a difference. Of course, that was a 6.5 HP though, don't know what it does on other engines.

What year and engine was that?

Mine reads a little over a quarter to about a third depending on conditions with the 180.

Where did you get the 180 stat and was it easy to install? Notice and performance gains?

I did the 180 degree t-stat. Then I thought I'd get adventurous and installed a 160 degree t-stat.
With the 160 it goes way down just above the C line on my 03 4.7
If I go up hills with a load it comes up to 1/3 or slightly higher regardless.

I noticed no gains going down to the 160 so I plan on popping the 180 back in before it gets too cold this winter. I'd like my heater to work when I go to the mountains.

My 180 barely hits the c or the first line on the temp gauge. The gauge becomes increasingly sensative the hotter the engine gets. It may just be a sending unit issue.
