Message: YOu might be best off getting a bug guard. The bras if left on for extended periods of times: weeks/months, will show some color differance, especially if your vehicle is dark in color. I recently bought a bug guard for the same reasons as you, and I have since not gotten any new dings in my paint. I drive by a concrete supplier and a rock quarry eveyday, so you can imangine the crap that is thrown at my dak. I am also in the process of adding gutter guard around my fog lights, I have replaced them 3 times already. Good luck

Message: Its not too bad. I cut an approx 6" diameter circle of the stuff and wrapped it around my light which is 4". So far so good, no cracks yet.

Message: I know of two options you have about the stone chips...I put a bug deflector on my dak and it helps A LOT...the other option...my dad has a durango R/T and he didn't want to add any kinda of hood gaurds or crap like that...so he went to this place that sells truck accessories and does spray in bed liners and they had this product called paint protector or something to that effect...and it's a clear plasic coat they they spray on the problem areas and it resists chipping and what not...and so far he is extremely pleased with the product

Message: By Bug defectors are you guys talking about the plexiglass(or whatever)Things that go on the hood and fenders. If so are the kind that use the 3m tape to attach, good ones ?

Message: I know a friend who has a Acura RSX that came with a clear sheet of plastic that covers a protion of the hood, and that seems to be working very well. Does and company make them for the Dakota? That could be one solution.

Message: I had a bra on a previous truck. I'd never buy another one. Regardless of how tight you can get it, they still move somewhat and rub. Even if you keep it waxed well underneath, you will eventually rub the paint off in some spots. Best reason to get one - cheaper than bodywork if you have light frontend damage.

Message: my bra didnt rub the paint or anything...i took it off everytime i washed it and everytime it rained, and the paint was never rubbed...thing is that these bras seams rub when the wind hits them,do what i did think of something soft and put under the bra where it rubs the fenders.
Oh and if someone wants my bra,its new and i used it like 5 or 6 times but it looks like it did the day i bought it.Reason for wanting to get rid of it is because i have a ram air hood and a stillen bumper cover.

Message: yes by bug deflector we mean the black plastic things on the front...I went with the Lund Low Profile one because I personally think the other ones stick up way too far...and the Lund one goes in between the hood and the grill...you just loosen the bolts for the grill...slide the deflector in between and tighten...and your done...very easy install...and since it is not stuck on with any kind of tape I don't have to worry about it coming off in the car wash or flying off on the freeway

Message: I went with the one that uses the 3M tape. Just note, if using anytype of addition that uses 3M tape, just prepare correctly. Meaning, you can wash the proposed area where the tape will stick to with dish washing liquid and water. The dish wash soap will strip the area of wax, which will allow proper adheasion. Next make sure the surface is completly dry, and attach.Good luck

Message: I have the bug deflector that is held on by the 3-M tape. It came with packets of wipes that they wanted you to wipe the area that the tape was going to adhere to before applying the deflector. Deflectors have been on since I took delivery of the truck back in March of 99, no problems to date. I have heard from many others that the brass looked good for a few months but they had problems with the rubbing, shrinkage, and also of the discoloration that UV rays cause. I'm not up on the different qualities of brass available but I would steer clear of them. Just my two cents worth.
