will a baby seat fit in a 97 dakota ext cab?
it is the only vehicle i have and i don't want to sell it cuz, i got a bunch of money tied up in it that i won't get back also it has high milage so trade in is out of the question.

It's a forward facing baby seat for my grandson. With the front passenger seat about half way back, there isn't alot of room between the front of the baby seat and the back of the front passenger seat. I do think that a rear facing infant seat might not fit as they tend to be larger due to the reclining position.

Yes, a baby seat will fit in 97 Dakota and so will your wife as long as she is somewhat petite.

I was able to get a rear facing one in the back BETWEEN the two front seats. It was tight, but the kid & seat did fit.

At one point we had to put one of the child seats in the front (we had 3 kids and a 95, no passenger airbag) and the petite wife sat in the back. Later, the kids & I were able to convince her we needed a quad cab, so I got my new '03 and everyone is happy.
Note, if you have an airbag on the passenger side, NEVER put the carseat there. Now if you can turn off the airbag, then it is okay.
