Subject: No Lights = Tragic Ticket IP: Logged
Message: Please help - anyone! The parking / running lights on my ’95 Dakota (v6, 4x4, x-cab) are not working. The headlights are operational, along with turn signals, 4-way flashers and brake lights. The dashboard lights are also working. Hmmmm? No Idea. I have looked over the fuses under the dash and did not find any of them to be toasted. I did notice (probably when the parking lights stopped working) a unique burning smell in the cab of the truck (The kind of smell that is emitted from the wire insulation getting too hot perhaps). Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Message: Could it be the Dakota recall? Do you have a manual trans?

Message: If you own a manual then the recall notice about the clutch pedal rubbing into or shorting out the wiring harness is probably your best bet.
If youre an automatic then start looking around your engine for a wiring harness that might have broken loose of its clamps and maybe to close to the engine. Look for the source of your running lights voltage then try to trace it back to your dash. With any luck the problem won't be under the dash where its difficult to get at. Electrical problems are always the most difficult since the problem is almost always hidden and tough to trace. Look for any physical indications under the hood and in the visible areas of the dashboard. Anything other than that should be tackled by a technician.

Message: The recall is only on 2001-2003 manual trans Dakota's. His is a 95.

Message: Thanks for the replies. It is a manual and it is a 1995 - so I don't think it fits with the recalls. But, I did notice that the clutch is fairly close some of the wiring. I'll have to take a close look.
Any additional information would help.
