Message: Should be no problem as far as the fit. I'm fitting a 46RE from a 2001 Ram in my '89 Dak. All I have to do is swap the rear tranny mount and it's a bolt-in. Well, after I rip all the electronics out and put real hardware in there. It's that straightforward. You need to be sure to use the torque converter and flexplate that matches the engine, so use the '94 stuff there.

Message: The only thing I can think of is regarding the tranny type. You need to use the appropriate TC etc for the '94 engine, but it also has to match the tranny. Meaning, if the TC on the '94 matched a 518, but your tranny from '90 is a A-500, you'd need to get another converter to fit the smaller tranny, but your flexplate will be the same since it's matched to the engine, not the tranny.

Message: Actually, any standard bellhousing (smallblock V-8) will bolt up, but if you're wanting overdrive models, use models from 1995 or earlier. In 1996, they incorporated electronic controls, and they require computer controls to run them, which the '94 will not have. Just be sure to use the torque converter specific to the engine it will be bolted to. So, in summary, any of the overdrive trannies (A500, A518, 42RH, 46RH) will bolt up. The A500/42RH is smaller and requires less power to spin the internals, more often used on the smaller engines. The A518/46RH is heavier and used with V8's, but it will bolt up and run behind the V6.
