I have a 99 SLT 4x4 that was recently hit froom behind and required a new tailgate. I had the lettering that was different from most other Dakotas. It was the silver raised letters that were approx. 1"-1 1/2" high and raised approx. 1/8". They just said Dodge and 4x4, but were not the stickers you see on most. The body shop and dealer tell me that there is no such decal made for this. And I like the look of something on there otherwise it is obvious that they were taken off there cause it was wrecked. I did not buy the truck new so I don't know for sure if this came on the truck or not, but I have seen other dakotas with them. If anyone could tell me where to get it or if it is even actually supposed to be there I would be grateful.

That sounds a lot like Dodge Durango liftgate letters. I removed the flat factory decals and put the DODGE letters from a '03 Durango in the same area. About $28.

Get the metal ones that go on the new rams. They are the same size as the dakota decals. the durango one is small.

The Ram letters are plastic. I thought they looked too big on the Dak tailgate. I tried it; went to the Durango subtle look.

Im with DakStPete, fire up a hair dryer and yank the rest of the lettering off.
The people dont know it's a dakota when they look at it probably wont be able to read the letters anyway.
