Subject: Preparing for winter IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2003 Club Cab 2WD with posi rear. What kind of weight do you guys put in the bed of the truck? The dealer suggested bags of cement. Just wanted to know what everyone uses. I have a bed liner in the truck wouldn't this slide around? Also does anyone else have a 2WD and how does it handle in the snow. Thanks

Message: I've seen two ideas I think are spiffy. One, you could mix some cement and pour it into big buckets, then jam some bent pieces of rebar into it so when the cement hardens, you have big heavy things that are easily portable. Two, you could use sandbags. That way if you or someone around you gets stuck on ice, you can break one open for quick traction.

Message: I have a 4x4 but I try not to use it as much as possible...and I use four 70 pound bags...I built a little rack for them that holds them in place between the wheel wells...it's a frame made of 2x4's that is secured in place by using steel cable between the corners of the rack and the cargo tie downs in the bed...works great!

Message: When I had my 97 4x4 I didn't put anything in the bed.
I put 6 60lb bags of sand in the bed of my 01 2WD. It has an open diff and it's absolutely awful in snow. 0 traction. One time I parked on ice and it took almost an hour to back out.
