Subject: An Honest AMSOIL story...

A POSITIVE story regarding FANTASTIC Amsoil!

I have had the pleasure of owning about 5 Honda Goldwings since being 21. The first time I changed to AMSOIL 10W40 full synthetic was in my 1979 Goldwing. The first run with the new oil, I came off a highway trip of about 30 miles (into work) and while downshifting through the gears (5 speed) I noticed that each gear----the RPM's didn't much go down. I thought "oh SH*T!" What did I do by putting this stuff in my crankcase! After work, I sheepishly went to my Honda Dealer's mechanic and 'off the cuff' asked him to do a compression test of my 'wing. I thought that I had blown the rings or something as I had no 'compression' left in the engine to bring me down from downshifting the tranny....

....well...after a short time in the shop, the mechanic (I knew this man--nice chap) came out and asked me again---what was my complaint? I told him about the engine staying up in the rev's and not bringing me down to the red light from off of the highway.

He then looked at me...and asked what I REALLY was worried about. Yeah..ok...I 'fessed up. I told him that I had changed the dino oil to AMSOIL 1040 full synthetic and felt I had screwed up my motor in doing so. He LAUGHED HIS ASS off...and when he was finished, told me that I have NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT! AMSOIL is so effective a lubricant, that I had near reduced parisitic friction to almost zero! What passed for my 'feeling' that I had blown my compression was in fact that the motor was in heaven and free-wheeling! That---is what was happening, and also that he had been using AMSOIL for his bike for quite some time. He said, go home and enjoy the new 'feel'.

I have been running AMSOIL 10W40 in my bikes and cars/trucks ever since. Ever since!

AMSOIL a scam? You have GOT to be kidding!

Kee-riced! A user, becomes a convert, hand's down, EVERY TIME. The product line does its OWN TALKING!!!!!

Ok...off the soap-box...

Next....

so you think it's worth it? I was thinking on my next oil change to switch to AMSOIL. The 25,000 mi change is nice too. I thought I'd start with the engine and then move on to the tranny and the rear end.

Absofigginlutely! You will never be let down with this line of lubricants.

No, I am not a dealer. No, I don't owe anyone a favour...lol. I am just one VERY satisfied and long-term user of their 10W40 product.

The GREATEST (my humble viewpoint) feature of Amsoil 10W40 is that it actually POURS/FLOWS at sub-freezing (-20 and lower) temperatures as dino oil would at an ambient temperature of 70F. Dino oil turns to paste at those sub temps!!! What this means, is that you have no 'dry' starts in Winter to your cams, valve train, and pistons... THIS IS WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION RIGHT THERE..... You have instant flow in the oil galleries...so important to reduce/negate serious engine wear.

Here is a testimonial that I would like to throw in ........

I switched from 10w-30 petroleum oil to the 0w-30 AMSOIL in my 2000 model Scag Turf Tiger and went from using 1.6 GPH (Gallons Per Hour) to 1.25 GPH.

Don`t blindly go by the 25 or 35k interval Amsoil advertises. Someone posted their oil analysis on their Dakota 4.7,Amsoil 10-40, on bobistheoilguy.com. The oil performed very well but at 12k his TBN is 2.6. He said he would test it again after another 12k. Someone pointed out that it would never make it with the TBN so low now.(that someone is an Amsoil sponsor on that site)

I`m looking at my own results that I just got back today and with 9,987k on my oil TBN is 4.19.(Amsoil ATM 10-30) The oil was in for 4 months and also included a filter change after 3 months and 1 quart make up. Thats 2 quarts that helped the TBN stay higher than it would of been.

Great oil, I`m sticking with it but be careful.

PS, You can see my full results and comments from the oil analysis fanatics at the site mentioned above.

While I will stick with D.C's recommended 5,000KM's (3000 mile) oil change because I am in warranty...I will go to 6,000 mile with a filter change at 3,000 as soon as the warranty period expires. That is the game plan I have always used since '79. :)

Sesquash,

Sombody is going to state that I was responsible for your original post ... so that I could come back and answer myself. I wish there was a way to prove that this is not true.

Oh well, I can't.
--------------------------------------------------

Jeremiah2360,

I try to be very clear when talking about extended drains. 10,000 mile oil change is absolutely possible. Up to a 25,000 mile interval is possible under certain conditions, but please read further for additional information. But the KEY here is that --- The 3,000 mile recommendation is overkill, especially with superior synthetic oils.

I know it's hard to believe, but there are a few things that I would like to clarify. Amsoil has been in the oil industry for 30 years. Due to Amsoil's superior synthetic composition and advanced performance additives, AMSOIL performs much longer than do conventional petroleum and other synthetic motor oils. No other major oil manufacturer matches AMSOIL's 25,000-mile or one-year drain interval option (whichever comes FIRST, changing the filter every six months).

However, the 25,000 mile /1 year that is on the back of the bottle is NOT an absolute! One must realize that is for non-severe service (highway miles where you have stable operating conditions) and that the indicated drain interval also has a time period of 1 year maximum as well.

***** READ THIS PLEASE EVERYONE*****

Under a combination of city and highway circumstances, AMSOIL recommends up to 2 or 3 times longer, it means up to 2 or 3 times the equipment manufacturer's recommendation (If your owners manual states 3k miles , then you can change at 9k, and if your owners manual states 5k then 12-15k changes would be alright based on driving habits ... the harder you drive, the sooner the change). Proper filtration is also very important. AMSOIL SDF Oil Filters must be changed at least every 6 months regardless of miles driven.

Notice: Modifications to engine will change service intervals.

Notice: More frequent service may be required under severe service operating conditions.

Notice: For drain interval beyond 3x manufacturers recommendations (especially the 25k change) ...

*** Regular oil analysis is recommended for establishing drain intervals ***

AMSOIL --- 30 years of manufacturing oil and mountains of data and tests make these clains possible.

Nope...I don't know you personally, but greetings!

As I stated in my post to another, I have been an Amsoil 'Groupie' since 1979. Why? The stuff WORKS! It pours in Winter as fine as Summer. THAT is the impetus for my use, let alone the side-offer of better fuel economy. For myself? I live in Ontario, Canada, and we can have some rather NASTY days during the Winter. I don't want to visualize DRY metal-to-metal...

Geez....

So Amsoil 10W40 takes care of the situation!

I guess that Mobil 1 does the same thing..but I have always been consistent when a product in my opinion, SURPASSES their printed claims for performance. I'll stick with Amsoil, a known 'proven' in my books!

Cheers!

here is an interesting fact about the pour point of AMSOIL. My friend when he was in college was testing AMSOIL in his lab for his own knowledge. In regards to it's freezing point, I don't remember what AMSOIL states it is but he had it down way below (colder) than their stated number it it still poured. He called AMSOIL and talked to a tech. about this. The comment was as follows: If we put in writing what the actual freezepoint was, no one would believe it. True, story, I am sure the non-believers will think I am full of s.

Hey there, Big Blue!

I personally know that Amsoil full synthetic 10W40 will pour as freely and at the same volume at -10 F as 10W40 Dino oil will pour at the Summer temperature of +70 F.

As they say---"that's all, Folks!"

Use it, and your engine's cam's, lifters, other valve train, pistons---all of it are instanly lubricated... Winter and Summer!!! Need anybody say any more? LOL!

Cheers!

Yes, Amsoil and Mobil 1 can be used to lubricate your shaft. Too much friction can wear down your shaft. Best to lube up your shaft before the stroking begins!!!

Question -

Does every thread succumb to the gibberish of 12 year olds. I honestly believed that the minnimum driving age was 16, with a learners permit at 15. So I ask, why do 12 year olds always show up to this site to bring a discussion down to toilet talk.

I can understand this nonsense from 12 year olds - their manhood is just coming into focus and they don't know what to do with it except talk toilet. But at 15 or 16 - aren't you interested in girls, hunting or fishing by now?

Scheesch !?!?

Today's vehicles are built to go 100,000 miles without a tune-up. Tires last for 75,000 to 100,000 miles. Anti-freeze now lasts up to 150,000 miles.

If it weren't for your oil and filters, you could drive your car off the lot and never see another service technician for 100,000 miles. Don't you wish "they" would come up with some way to avoid the hassle and the expense of so many oil & filter changes? If you're tired of 3,000 mile oil changes, this will be some of the most important information you ever read.

LUBRICATION INDUSTRY SECRETS REVEALED! - Why isn't the automotive lubrication industry offering the same convenience that other automotive industries are? Because they're afraid of lost revenue. The technology's been around for years.

It's simply more profitable for large oil companies to sell conventional petroleum motor oils, or a four dollar STANDARD DRAIN Synthetic ... than a slightly more expensive EXTENDED DRAIN Synthetic. They've got you coming back every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. They've want your money ... and they've got your money.

In fact, Synthetic Oils are just an ADD-ON for the BIG oil companies. Their bread and butter is conventional petroleum oil sales. If they start selling cost-effective, extended drain synthetic oils, you will quit buying petroleum oil. And, you'll purchase synthetic oil less often. In the end their profit margins would fall drastically. They would have to completely rethink their marketing strategy. How sad.

Here's another little known tidbit you should know. Mobil came out with a 25,000 mile synthetic in the mid 70's. But, the company refocused on petroleum oils because they were more profitable. Guess what? They've done another 180 degree turnaround. It appears Mobil Corporation is now working on yet another 25,000 mile synthetic oil. Why 25,000 miles? Why not 20,000 or 30,000? Who do you think their competing with? I won't mention any names (Amsoil). I am not into promoting someone else (Amsoil)... but if you look around I bet you might find them yourself. (Amsoil)

I don't know about all that. Look what Mercedes and Porsche use, not to mention the Viper!

From the Mobil 1 website:

Don't Just Take Our Word For It
Mobil 1® comes as standard equipment in some of the finest production vehicles you can buy. It's "factory fill" in Chevrolet Corvette, all Porsches, Mercedes-Benz AMG models, Dodge Viper, Ford Mustang Cobra R and all Aston Martin cars. Here are some remarks from some of the top engineers and executives at these renowned manufacturers.

"Every car produced in the factory in Stuttgart gets its first oil from Mobil 1. And that means that all our cars and engines are developed with that product."
– Herbert Ampferer, Director,
Porsche Motorsports

"Mobil 1 is the only oil we use for our engines as the first filling. And then we put the sticker in the engine compartment just to make sure that people know what's in their engines."
– Domingos Piedade, Managing Director,
Mercedes-Benz AMG

"Based upon the results we saw several years ago in endurance racing with Team Shelby, we felt Mobil 1 could do the job in the Viper, Dodge's highest-performance sports car."

DaimlerChrysler Corporation
