I think that I read somewhere, that a clever fellow used a needle to pierce the 'back' of each ball-joint boot and injected a good quality grease into the boot until he got the bulge that a zerk-fitting would give ya in days, gone past.
What a great idea!
That just might delay or negate the infamous ball-joint replacement dance we all face sooner or later....
Has anybody reading this post actually tried this? If so, what has been your experience? Did you get a good amount of grease into the boot?

Be careful when u grease your ball joints. Don't grease them too much, u can rupture the seal causing the grease to leak, and get on your rotors. I learned this the hard way, and grease got everywhere, a-arms, rotors and all, after driving the truck some, rotors get hot, and the grease will burn and smoke like hell, I had my ball joints replaced, and too much grease came in the joints from the manufacturer. I took it back and they cleaned every thing out good and no problems since, i caution when you do this, and besides, they already have an overflow hole in them, thats where the grease was seeping out from mine. mines a 97 5.2 4x4 cc. I used to use that method on my 89'Chevy 4x4 since it didn't have any grease fittings...never had any problems.

I use a needle but what i do is instead of poking a hole in the boot i slip the needle under the boot and grease it. it works quite well, the ball joints on my 02 qc 4x4 are at 42k miles now and counting.
