 Subject: Fog lights, how to turn on?

Hi, I just bought a 2001 Dakota and it has what looks like fog lights factory mounted in the front bumper. For the life of me, I haven't been able to figure out how they turn on! No manual came with the truck :(
Can someone help me out on this?

Pull straight out on the light switch. They will work with either parking lights or low beams, but not high beams.

one some vehicles you pull out the switch on the early late models you turn on the headlights, then turn on another switch in the dash, and even if they are factory lights they could very well be installed in some guy's driveway and not in a factory and may have a switch tucked away somewhere. you come across as a very wise azzed idiot.

LOOK FOR A SWITCH THAT SAY'S FOGLIGHTS. THEN TRY TO PUSH IT, IF THAT DOESN'T WORK THEN TRY TO PULL IT. IF THAT THAT DOESN'T WORK THEN TRY TO TURN IT. IF ALL ELSE FAILS SELL THE TRUCK IT MUST BE BROKEN.

On my 01, SLT, QC, ..., you have to TURN the knob, 1st click for running lights, second click for the headlights too.
So, at least on an 01, he said he had an 01,
NONE of you were right.
Give the guy a break.
It used to be you didn't have to have X of a Dakota IQ to ask a question on this board. Gee, you think he'll be back asking a question now?

Todd, do you have fog lights ? I agree too many people slammed this guy who clearly didn't deserve it. For my 2000, the same switch you discuss turning for running lights or headlights pulls out for foglights. Since you don't mention fog lights, I wonder if 2001 might be the same ?

You have to turn the headlight switch at least one click right to turn on the parking lights before it'll pull out for the foglights. You can't just turn on the foglights alone on a factory installed 2001.

short answer-no
I ordered my dak, and to get the two tone paint, you had to have the SLT-no problem.
To get the factory foglights, you had to have the sport package.-I wanted the two tone paint more, oh well, at first, I wanted the foglihgts, an easy aftermarket upgrade for me now. But they really don't do much, and I put what little time I had into things like HO cams and intake, etc.
I didn't know they pulled out on the switch-
my bad.

You're right, I hardly ever use mine. Those round holes look lined up pretty well for brake cooling passages for another use, don't they ?

the 98 slt I just traded off for a 2004 sport plus had the older style foglight switch which you ,pushed- it worked very well and was easy to use-- the 2004 sport plus has this pull switch built into the main light rotary switch-- I don't like it -- it feels flimsy they should have left that alone -- they should also have left the dash styling alone-- the older rounded dash looked good , this new flat one with about a dozen cubbie trays., and flat spaces looks like garbage-- the 4 wheel electric switch is low and in the way of my knees -- dodge should have put it up and out of the way -- but the heater switch works much better , and the new fan is louder than an F-15 at take off when you want high fan -- now I just have to align the fog lights so that they actually show me some lighted up road surface and not just the bumper-- why can't DC get anything right? I bought these 2 trucks because they are the right size and the Toyota dealers are all arrogant jerks who say they do not have to deal
