Subject: PowerTrax is hideous IP: Logged
Message: I installed the PowerTrax No Slip Traction System in my 01 2WD and the noise is hideous! I thought this was the quiet model. I'll give it a few weeks to break in but if it doesn't improve I'm ripping it out and selling it.
Anyone have one of these? What does my future hold?

Message: Some people say it gets better. My no-slip didn't get any better and I only install for the winter now. I have the 5 speed manual trans and the no-slip is really clunky at slow speeds and tight turns. Good luck

Message: I think you'll be pulling it. I know my Detroit full on locker makes no noise and get minimal chirping in turns and from stops, no clunks but it is pricey and you have to do a carrier change. Great for off road but your needs are different than a 4x4 prolly.
Never late for a Tee time or wheelin with my buddies! Always ready for both!!!Forexfour's home

Message: The new Nissan Titan with 4x4 option has a full locker that you can switch on from the cab. Toyota has had one for awhile. Somebody should really tell DC to get with the game. (Would it really be that difficult to subcontract out the production of a million sets of ball joints to Moog, either? I think Moog would be very interested in the business).

Message: I wish I knew what make my LSD is, I got from Randy's ring & pinion along with my 4:10 gears.
It makes no aditional noise, and I can feel the added preaseure on the inside rear tire durring corners but they do not chirp. If I get on it in a corner it will spin both tires.
The best I can do is say call randy's and ask what thier OEM replacement is.
(my salesman "Hank" recomended against the powertrax)
hope this helps.

Message: I had the Lock-Rite which I think is about the same in a Explorer. I loved the traction offroad, but the on road manners were not good. I would have to push in the clutch and coast around corners in town or it would jerk and slip the inside, driving tire. Sometimes when taking off from a stop it would lock together with suck a bang I would actually think I got rearended. With that said, I could climb just about any hill just idling. I think I would have to put a selective locker in my Dakota if there is ever one available.

Message: I've had mine in for a year now. I was going to take it out in the summer but couldn't be bothered.
It will break in. I think it's actually a very well made unit, IMHO. Mine still pops evey once in a while. It takes a different driving style to be effective. Just mashing the pedal won't cut it.
I have an automatic so that prolly makes a big difference as far as user friendliness goes. Hang in there. Give it at least a month.

Message: As mentioned, I think it is smoother with an automatic than manual. Mine will still make a pop or slight click every once in a while; have to go easy on throttle through turns. Also, it goes without saying that tires on axle have to be same size, same tire pressure and worn the same, otherwise, you'll have problems...
