I was told they imported them to help with the cotton crops here in the South (a 'safe' effective bio-bug killer). They were all sterilized so there would be no offspring (NOT!). So now they are everywhere and they do bite. If they are the orange ones with black spots, they are technically not ladybugs but some other sort of beetle. So to save us from heavy pesticide use, we now have these little buggers. Sometimes you can't win.

They may have been intentionally released by your state environmental/DEP office. Here in PA we had a similar occurence 2 years ago. MILLIONS of them everywhere, all over houses, etc.

They were released here to combat a bug that is killing off all the Hemlocks (i think) in this area. So for you, its prolly your soy beans or some other defensive measure. So it's for a good reason but like it would kill them to tell everyone that they're doing it.

Next year, you won't notice them.

I bought a travel trailer just before winter a few years ago and put it in 'storage mode' for the winter. In spring when I opened it up to get it ready for our vacations, I found thousands of the little snots in the trailer. They were EVERYWHERE. We are still finding dead ones each time we camp. We ended up naming the trailer 'Ladybug' in 'honor' of the little orange bugs.

I just noticed an abundance of em recently... a couple years ago here in Ohio they were god-awful. Not so bad now though this year's been another bad one. I've never been bitten, though I wouldn't doubt they do, but it just drives me crazy always having em crawling on my clothes and stuff.

You can't mess with Mother Nature!

See what it has done............ so far?

Also, see how EASY it is to infect the US with
something? Just think what our *friends* in other
countrys could do IF they wanted to?

Think about it...

That's true, it would be a peice of cake to inflict some major damage. No reason to think about it though. Living in fear is exactly what a certain politician is counting on this november lol.

grumpy - they do bite, looks like you've learned something new yet again.

I was driving home one night in eastern washington, and out just all the sudden there was a solid white "cloud". I was going about 45 and i plowed right into it. after a few seconds i passed right through, and i drove a few more seconds to get away from it. I got out and my car was totally covered in white moths. It was gross and annoying. It's amazing the numbers involved with these things.
