Message: Hey all I got the upper moogs that are for the 97-99 daks for my 2001! Anyone know which size bolts I need for the ball joints. I remembered someone saying that the stock bolts that come with the ball joints are too small for the 2001 control arm holes. What size bolts do I need??
Message: You can be your own engineer for something as simple as bolt size. Just be very conservative, and you'll be fine.
The shank size of the bolt has to be very close to the bore diameter of the hole(s) of the components you're joining, but not greater - you shouldn't need to hammer a bolt into a hole. Use an inside diameter caliper to get the hole size. Bolts should be just long enough that you could see 2 or 3 threads protruding past the nut after it's been tightened with a lock ring. Bolt quality should be the highest rating you can get (indicated by the number of radial markings on the hex head of a bolt - go for at least 5, preferably 7). Thread guage should be average, you don't need extremely fine threads with a lock (split) ring, but they shouldn't be too coarse, either. I figure most good welding shops should have a good selection of bolts & nuts.
Message: Alright thanks! Just thought someone out there actually had the size bolts so I dont have to take em off and then measure the control arm holes and then go to the store to get them. Tryin to save a step!
