Subject: P 0171 trouble code problem IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys. I have a code popping up. P 0171 is what it reads. Shows me its a lean oxygen sensor. Took it to the dealer and they said its the second downstream O2 sensor. Well there are two of them. I need to know if there is a better Way to pinpoint which sensor is bad. the dealer wanted 400$ to replace one sensor.
PS if i disconnect the battery it clears for a while but comes back. with the same code. I bought the repair manual and it describes the code as lean sensor Bank 1. what side is that ( Bank 1) driver or passanger?
thanx to all

Message: Bank #1 is the Drivers side Cat & O2 sensors.
I just went through a similar issue on my Dakota.
The O2 Sensor is ~$145 at the dealer. I bought a
universal O2 Sensor at autozone, and spliced
the new sensor into the old O2 sensors connector.
The universal sensor was $65
