 Subject: bad clutch or cat ?????

recently my dak has been making this clanking noise kinda like tapping a nail on a tin can its not the injectors. Its coming from around the right side near bell house area not sure though if its the clutch going bad or the cat what does a bad cat converter sounds like if its about to go or already has. shifting from 1-2 is not smooth 2-3 with the clutch pedal depressed all the way down is still grinds a little. not sure if its the clutch gone bad or cat ???
