Subject: Why is my 5.2 Dak a slug when cold? IP: Logged
Message: Ok, it's 80 degrees outside. I get into my 5.2 Dak first thing in the morning and start it. I let it idle for about one minute before putting it in reverse and backing down the driveway.
My Dak has the 180 degree thermostat, and it takes about 3-5 minutes of driving before it's "warmed up".
What I've noticed is that my Dak is a is a real slug until it gets warmed up. Is this a normal occurance? When I push on the gas pedal, it feels like my timing is 150 degrees retarded. I mean, it has NO power. Granted, the truck is in "open loop" when warming up, but I just need to know if any of you other 5.2 Dak owners have the same problem.

Message: I always let my old 318 warm up for about 10 min before pulling out.
Its like giving it time to drink its coffie.

Message: Mine is much faster when cold. I don't push it though because its not so good for the engine. At 114k miles and all original, I take it easy until its at 180 degree operating temp.

Message: You might try a bottle of injector cleaner and 3-4 gallons of premium gasoline in the tank. My '92 5.2 always started well with Bosch Platinum plugs. Check your cap and rotor contacts.

Message: I just bought the truck. I installed new plugs, cap, rotor. Put sysnthetic oil, Bosch Platinums. K&N FIPK, tranny service, adjusted the bands, rear end service, 180 thermostst, new coolant. Adjusted the TPS, and had the timing checked by the dealer to make sure it was dead nuts.
I just thought all Daks drove like this when cold.

Message: Everything has to warm up, jeez it can take your tranny 10 minutes or so to even get close to performance tempreatures. If your gassing it when you first start your truck and trying to hot rod around, your going to blow a head gasket. Geez!
