I have a 2000 4.7 Auto 4X4, For the last couple months I have noticed that when I start it up first thing in the morning when it is cold, the engine instantly shoots up to 2K RPM's for a second or two, then mellows down to normal. It only does it when cold. I put NGK platinum plugs in a while back, and am wondering if they could be causing this. I don't want to cause any more engine damage, any info would help. Of course the dealer couldn't duplicate the problem.

I've heard that platinums aren't good for the 4.7, but not sure if that is accurate

My 2000 4.7 would do this occasionally, but not all the time. A couple of weeks ago, I had a tune up done on it, and it hasn't revved high at startup since. Just put the standard Champion plugs in it, and new PCV valve.

Where is the PCV valve located? is it hard to replace? and are you happy with the champion plugs, most guys here seem to go with the autolites. I don't really care as long as they are smooth idling.
