Message: I have a 2001 Dakota 4x4 Club Cab w/3.9 v6 engine.
The truck has a subtle hesitation/stall/bump sensation while at speeds between 30mph and 65mph.
It is very hard to describe but annoying as can be. It just seems to want to pull back and let go and does it regularly. Not a pronounced problem, very subtle like. I have driven trucks that drive smooth at hiway speed and this one is not doing that. It is like the motor is missing a little. Dodge service drove it and said it is not broken in yet... 1200 miles. Anyone have this problem or am i just losin my mind?
thanks

Message: Tom,
I have the 4.7 with the auto-tranny, and I have a symptom very similar to yours. I have yet to take it in for the particular problem but I'm almost certain it's my auto-transmission. There is a TSB out for the transmission. I'm hoping that's the problem and I'm pretty sure it will be.
Just FYI,
Jeff

Message: Problems.
I always bought Jap trucks,(toyota). Put 150k on it, and never had to bring it to the dealer. Sold that one, bought another, put another 125k on it, never a problem.
I just bought my brand new Dak because i needed the 4 door cab for my kid. Well, it has 2k on it and is headed in for service.
Major clanking from front right wheel, heat shield vibrates so much, i think i am driving a goddam tamborine.
It pulls hard to the right, tires showing wear already. I though that was odd, so i checked all the wheels for "obvious" problems. Turns out, my real axle is friggen crooked. The right rear wheel is 2 inches outside the wheel well, and the left in just inside. Goddam crooked. After 2k miles, the the excitment of a new car has worn off, it feel like i am driving a crab crawling sideways across the highway.
It goes in for service this week. I will drive it a year so I don't lose to much money, and dump it. Going back to problem free jap trucks.
Hey, I tried.

Message: my 2001 Dakota has door lock problems. The problem
comes and goes. Sometimes when I stop, turn the
engine off, I can't open the door with the inside
handle. I have to turn the switch back on, roll
down the window, and open the door from the outside. Then for some magic reason, the problem
goes away, and the doors work fine again. I have
a two door club cab.

Friend has a 2001 3.9 w/auto that had the same problem. Dealer ended up putting a recorder on it, and it turned out to be the Throttle Position Sensor.

Had same problem with mine. Removed door panel and the rod which connects the inside handle had not been properly installed into the plastic retainer clip (looks like an elongated "U"). By not being inserted, it effectively lengthens the rod. Inserted into the retainer and it has worked since.
