ok...'98 dak, 3.9l v6 that had a huge coolant leak.
i replaced upper and lower radiator hoses, both heater hoses, and put in a new thermostat. i flushed the radiator and put new fluid in.
now the temp gauage goes up to about 240, then drops back down to 195. there's no heat except right before the temp drops to 195, i get a burst of hot air, then it goes back to cold.
any ideas.

The other thing I have read on this site is bleeding the system to get out the air. I have no idea how to do that.

we have a 3.9l dak, and i think bleeding is only on the 4.7.
yes i replaced the thermostat. maybe it's sticking? any ideas?

Sounds like air in the system - the steam pocket sends temp up but you dont get heat out of it. I had a t-stat that would stick open once, no heat also when that happens but temp reading goes down.

Drive the truck for a while. Make sure it heats up. After you park and let the engine cool down (Cooling down is important) check the fluid level. Refill as necessary. Do this a few times and the air should have moved to the top of the radiator and been replaced by coolant.
