Subject: Rear End Deceleration Whine IP: Logged
Message: Hello:
I have a 2001 QC 4x4 5.9L. Pretty sure I have the 3.92 rear end with Limited Slip. Anyway, I've noticed when I'm driving around that, no matter at what speed, when I let off the gas, I get a low whirring sort of sound coming from what I think is the rear end. It almost sounds like tread noise on pavement but I know it's not since it's only after I let off the gas.
Anyone else have this occurence? Is it normal? Any info greatly appreciated.

Message: I have a 98 2 wheel drive with a 318 5 speed and it does the same thing. I am waiting for it to come unglued.

Message: it is the sycro of the gears, it is not necessarily a problem, unles it gets louder and louder. It will clunk going around corners if it is about to fall apart. You may be able to quiet it with new fluid and if it is a lsd put some friction modifier in as well, you can get it from mopar but ford has the best one

Message: well, it's not a 'loud' problem, its just one of those "did you hear that" things. Not loud, not annoying, just there and probably not noticeable to most.
I'll keep tabs on it. Thanks for the info!
