Subject: Tire size/ABS/Speedometer Question
IP: Logged

Message:
Well, here's the problem. I have a 2000 Dakota, 4.7 Auto. It came with 3.55's, which have been tossed and replaced with 4.10's.

The truck came with what may well be the worst tires ever made by man - Goodyear LS - in size 255/65/15. These tires will soon be thrown into the dustbin of history at the 34K mile mark (they were never worth a d+mn, but were unbelieveably bad the last 15K miles).

Im going to the Bridgestone Revo in size 265/70/15 (29.6" diam.) - a tire 1.6" taller than the 28" OEM tire.

According to Dodge, I can have the computer recalibrated for the closest diameter tire offered - the 235/75/15 - a tire .7 inches less in diameter at 28.9". This will cause about a 1.5mph error at 65mph, and I can live with that.

The real question I have is this - after recalibrating the computer will this difference affect the ABS system??

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
MD

I have asked similar question on Edmunds site and response from 2 knowledgeabe people's opinion was that it would be effected because computer that controls ABS is programed with revolution per mile and any diameter change effects this. I have ordered 275/70x16 Yokahoma Geolander HT-S tires and they are 1/2 inch taller than 265's. (The Revo's were my first choice but on backorder and not available till Nov. I'm looking for an aftermarket programmer. Thanks, JimT
