Subject: Lights in bed IP: Logged
Message: I've got a 2000 QC that I just put an Access Roll-up tonneau cover on. I'm wanting to get keyless entry lock for the tailgate that operates with the OEM door lock system. Any ideas on brands, tips, etc? Also, I am wanting to wire 2 or 4 small lights into the bed. Either 1 or 2 on each side, under the rail, and as unseen as possible. Any ideas on brands, types of lights, and power source wiring would be really helpful. I want to lights to be on a switch in the bed, so I don't have to go to the cab and turn on the cargo lights, so I don't want to wire it into the cargo lights. I thought about maybe the cig lighter, since its aux power is always available, and I don't use it anyway except for a cell phone charger. Any tips? Thanks a lot...

Message: I wired my bed lights to the cargo light. Since I have the remote key fob thing, I can turn on the lights by just hitting the "unlock" button. They will then go off after a while so a forgetful person like me won't drain the battery. I also wired the bed lights to an on-off-on switch that has one side to ground and the other to the cargo circuit. That way if I want to drain the battery, I can. The center position means the lights are off all the time.
For lights, I used two sets of two fluorescent 6V closet lights I found at Home Depot (they normally run on 4 AA cells). I wired them in series (two each = 12V) and put them on either side of my bed. The fluorescent lights don't draw much power, but they do put out the light.
Oh yea, I don't know about the 2000, but for the 03, the cargo circuit is switched on the ground side, they connect or disconnect the ground to turn off/on the light. So one side of the cargo circuit is always 12V and the other is either open or grounded. So if you want to run the bed light off of the cargo light, you have one side of your light to 12V and the other to the cargo circuit.

Message: you could get a set of aftermarket fog lights, they are small and put out alot of light, or get a set of cheap white neon lights, as for the power source if you have the towing package you have a 7-pin wireing hernes one of the pins is a power constant
that is what I used when I put in a 12-volt powerpoint in my box
