Message: Well, I just replaced the ball joints on my 98 Dakota. I've also replace the brakes, now my transfer case is gone. It is a '98 with 56k miles. I use 4 Wheel drive for winter driving in the city and to get my dirt bike far enough in the back country to ride it on the tough stuff. I shouldn't need to rebuild my t-case at 56k miles. I was considering a Dak quad cab or a Ram Quad Cab because they are hands down, the best looking trucks. Unfortunately, the reliability of my first Dodge truck may push me back to Ford. Oh yea, its a '98, so no warranty. I just had to vent because I'm a little disgusted right now.

Toyotas will last forever and they're built here in the USoA. Check out VMAG Posting Forums. Spend some time lurking and you'll get a feel for how excellent Toyota trucks are.

Message: Oh I don't know. My Dak just pasted 98,000 and no problems so far. I did have to replace the brakes at 80,000 and the exhaust at 90. I kinda like buying American so you can have a job. Yeah I know the Toys are built here but the money still ends up in Japan. So go ahead, support them and wonder why your medical benifits are getting cut, no raises and your investments are in the toilet.

Message: So I guess by your logic the money from every Dodge purchase ends up in Germany since DC is a German company.
Medical benefits are getting cut because Emperor Bush and his buddies deem it more important to pour money into a shlt hole like Iraq or Afghanistan than to take care of the homeland.
U R an idot.

Message: First, I bought my Dak prior to the DB-Chrysler merger. My next truck will be a Ford. Second, the money being spent on Iraq is consiberly less than what another attack on the USA would cost. Those cost are the result of an inactive Klinton administration dealing with terrorisum. The trached ecomony is also the final effect of Klinton's history making tax increase and libral trade policies. The 768 BILLION trade deficit is wages directly out of you pocket because of imports. Why do you think Japan's auto industry would collapse without US sales and the strength of the dollar compared to the yen? They need at leasy 92 Yen per dollar to survive. At 90 they would fail. To address your stupidity, goverment has very little to do with the overall ecomony. Reguardless of their actions, demand for OUR products, GNP and investments determine the health of business. The other determining factor is personal savings and credit levels.
Before you get into a whit battle, you'd better dig deeper into the inter-workings of business. Of course, thats why you live paycheck to paycheck and I retired a the age of 35 from the Nasdaq boom prior to 2001. I invested in AMERICA and your measly job.

Message: The reason I am considering Ford instead of Toyota is because I just don't like Toyota and, I checked Consumer Reports and the Ford was rated as high as the Toyota for reliability. I'm just disgusted that I can't afford to trade the thing in right now. I'm sure that there are plenty of examples of Dakotas that have lasted a long time. I love to maintain my truck, and it has had too many problems for only having 56k miles.

But to get back with the subject. I curently drive a Dodge Dakota with over 170 K miles on it. The 318 powertrain is just flawless. Never does it stall out when towing. Just the drivetrain (being the auto tranny) sucks and the transfercase is leaking and now I kneed a persure hose for the Powerstearing. Shure I can fix it, but is it worth it? I bought it for just over 5 grand. So why make the repairs that almost add up for the coast to the purchase?
I recently test drove a 04 F-150 reg. cab pick-up. I have to say that the ride quality rivals a Bently. Also, no matter what cab option you want (reg, supercab, supercrew) you still got four doors.
Now for good stuff. This newer designed 5.4L (330cid) 3 valve V8 is really a sweet motor and taking it out to the street proves it's got more than enought power. Just punching it up to 2000 RPMs will launch you to 60 in just a matter of seconds. Also it feels quite a bit stonger than the 5.7 Hemi at lower reves. As a matter of fact, 80% of the engines tourqe is @ 1000 RPM

Message: Well, like I said, I'm sure there are those of you that got plenty of mileage out of your Dakota. But there are also many people who are having problems (ball joints, brakes, water in the cab...) Dodge will probably never get a second chance to make a first impression on me. Too bad, I really liked it until the chaos.

Message: Sts,
Thats a good one. F-150 ride quality rivals a Bentley. Just how would you know per se? I am not intending to ridicule, but in would not seem likely that someone who buys a high mileage Dakota would also have a Bentley as an alternate mode of transport.
