Every vehicle has its flaws. like fords for example are just plan boring looking trucks unless you get a lightning or harley davidson edition. Dodges are the best looking but lack in realiability some say. I will argue that point because most breakdowns are due to people with a lead foot. Chevy's are nice but kinda stole the old dodge look. all and all. buy something and dont complain because your the jackarse who bought it.

JHarader, is this not a forum to talk about Dodge Dakota trucks? Someone may be looking to this website deciding whether or not they should purchase a Dodge Dakota. I think they would find it helpful that I mention that at 56k miles, I've had the ball joints replaced twice (once under warranty, and now again with after market parts), I having the transfer case rebuilt, and had to replace the rotors. Your leadfoot theory is just absurd. Trucks are made to haul stuff and be taken off road. Mine hasn't been subjected to much of that, unless you count a 250 lb dirtbike as a heavy load. I agree that the Dakota is a beautiful truck. In my opinion the best looking truck out there. But I think that if someone was considering one, they should be aware of problems they may experience. Personally, I'd rather be driving a "boring" looking truck and spending my money on toys, than spending my money fixing major problems on the vehicle that may someday pull the toys; that's if I can ever save up enough money without dumping it into the Dakota. I wish I had found such information before I bought this thing. I've seen Geo Metros get more miles of trouble-free use.

Ford's are notorious for transmission problems
. My buddy bought a 2001 f-150 and has had to replace the tranny, many sensors and not to mention a transfer case and this is only at 42k and he "hauls stuff and goes offroad" and he has a lead foot along with many people i know. You have to pay to play! personally i dont care what truck you wanna buy. chances are now these days is your gonna get burned unless its brand new. got 260 some odd k out of my dakota without "major problems" definately a satisfied customer.

Tranny slips a little in my dakota but i wouldnt complain with the mileage that it has. Ive heard of people with problems but must of them around here are with people towing outlandish trailers at 75 in overdrive. knew a guy with a short bed
v-10 and he hauled a 22 foot trailer load of shingles everyday manualy shifting needless to say he burned the tranny out within 8 months but thats a gigantic load

Jharader,

My biggest problem with my, auto, is that the 1st gear ratio is just to tall (2.45:1) of a 4x4 vehical. Also, you need suitable gears for towing. The older Automatics that Chrysler made were based off the older 727 torque flite transmission. And of course if was built for high performance cars, not trucks.

Dodge still uses a the older version of the called the 48RE (same gears as all the others) and mated to the H.O Cummins Diesal.

About the V10's. Can you still order one. I herd there going to axed because of sales.
