Subject: ball joint problems beware
IP: Logged

Message:
This Weekend I was driving and drove over a wheelstop and it was enough jolt to break my worn out ball joint and my wheel ended up 90 degrees in the direction it isnt supposed to go.
I had it towed and my buddy and I tried to order a new ball joint and they are on national back order according to some local dealerships.I guess usually you can lube them up to prevent the deterroration, but on the daks you cant.
I have a 2000 Dak quad cab 4x4 if any of you know of a place to get a ball joint please reply so I can get it shipped I am without a truck until it gets fixed. I had to rent a mazda protoge or some crap... Let m,e know and get yours checked out they might be worn.

Doug I have a 2000 and you can aftermarket parts at NAAP and the others. Get moog ball joints. The listings are up 1999 only but it is the same ball joint and it will fit your 2000, I did it.

Doug,

if you want any advice on fixing it yourself let me know and I will try and give you a hand. Its actually extremely easy. Just get yourself a grinder.

damn dude that sucks. pretty funny looking though. Luckily (thanks to this forum) i replaced my stock ball joints a few months ago. The moogs are better then the stock ones so you'll be happier with those then ones from the dealer anyway. The dakotas are notorious for ball joint problems. Mine were knocking after only 20,000 miles.

Moog joints are the best! Don't forget to put grease fittings on them so this doesn't happen to you again.

Are balljoints covered under the Dodge 3/36 and the mopar extended warranties??

I was shopping for a 2002-03 Durango but this whole balljoint thing (as well as the "engine sludge" issue) have me a little worried...

Bad luck man, my upper drivers side ball joint just went on my 2001 4x4 with only 11,000 miles on it. The ball joint came attached to the control arm. Dodge replaced it and then gave me my truck back without aligning it so I had to have it done elsewhere because they said their machine is broken. The dodge dealer (Carl Gregory) here in Georgia sucks ass. My engine light has been coming on every week for the last 8 months and they said they don't know how to fix it. I guess they trying to tell me to go somewhere else to have it fixed. I'm still under the 3/36 warranty.

If your engine light is coming on you probably nedd to make sure your gas cap is tightened correctly , each time you get gas.
If I dont pt it on tightly mine will come on abd then go off a week later after I tighten it.

Yea, I'm aware of the gas cap issue. I get a po1196 code stating the sensor is not switching fast enough. Dodge replaced the sensor but the code still appears weekly. I used their co-pilot and recorded the light just before it came on but that was 2 months ago and Dodge says they can't figure out how to download the info...They are a bunch of idiots that don't know sh_t about fixing trucks. I go see my attorney today and am putting a large sign in my truck to advertise their crappy dealership for free I might add.
