Subject: GEN II wiper cowl removal
IP: Logged

Message:
Does anybody know how to remove the cowl on a gen II?

My wipers quit while driving down the highway in the rain today. The arm that moves the wiper assembly back and forth is still connected to the motor. The spot where the arm connects to the wiper assembly must be the problem area. I can't seem to get the cowl off, there must be fasteners in the back. Has anybody pulled their cowl?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

TIA

Nevermind...

A wide prybar will loosen the seals that actually "seal" the cowl on.

I can't say I've ever had problems like that.

There are springs that hold the wipers down...

They are located on the bottom of the arm. Maybe you could replace those? Your could be tired.

I also have cheap, single blade wipers... maybe they have less drag. Do you have the fancy tripple wiper ones?

Oh man! if you have the same problem with your wiper pivot arm as i did, you will have some fun trying to fix it. I got the part for about $25 at a junkyard(dodge wanted 65 for a new one), but installation was a pain. You have to do it all by feel and you arent gonna have much luck unless you have flexible elbows and a good strong grip....Good luck..
