Subject: Overdrive engages at 30 mph? How to fix? IP: Logged
Message: Hello all. I have a 97 5.2 Dak, automatic, 2WD, club-cab.
I noticed that if I drive normally (not agressively), that my overdrive engages exactly at 30 mph. The only way to overcome this is to manually shut it on and off. Well, that becomes annoying after a while.
Is there a way to "adjust" the speed at which the overdrive engages? Is it controlled by the PCM?
Would a shift-kit improve this?
Thanks in advance for any responses.
Regards, ARG

Message: Yes, Buy a Jet Chip, Stage 1. Took that problem away for me. I've noticed identical acceleration from a pedal push without the usual downshift. It creates the sensation of overdrive being turned off, but without the roaring that occurs. Its a happy medium in my opinion.

Message: I gess that will work in a RE auto but not on my RH modle. I'm about to rip mine out and install a Jet 518 tranny with a lower 1st gear!!
Its ridiculous that any transmission in a truck has a gear ratio that high.
