Subject: propane smell from exhaust IP: Logged
Message: Anyone have a funny smell from their exhaust that smells like propane? I`ve got a `02 QC with the 4.7 and for the last 3 weeks the exhaust smells like I`m running propane through it. I`ve been through 3 tanks of fuel from different places and it is still there.
I bought it brand new and it has no performance upgrades and under 20k miles.

Message: The catalytic converter will cause a bad smell like that when they begin to go bad. I don't know how to check it though to see for sure if thats it.

Message: It is from the catalytic converter, but I don't think it means it is bad. I think it has more to do with the quality of fuel you are using. Is it only on short trips? Because the catalyst requires high temps to work effectively.
