I remeber seeing somewhere that you can buy a kit that prevents the fog lights from shutting off when you put your highbeams on. Anyone have a company name or web site that i could go to. It would nice to have both on at the same time

Im not sure you even need a kit. You might just want to find a wireing diagram of the lighting system, It should work like your average after market fog lights all you should have to do is cut one a kind of "remote" line wire and power it from either directly from your battery or my suggestion would be your parking lights
hope this helps
let me know how it works

Fog Light Relay Fix

The Fog light relay is located behind the kick panel to the left of the parking brake. The panel is attached by 2 screws. One is located at the top left of the carpet, just pull the carpet back a little bit and you will see the screw. The second is located under the door plate. Just take a screwdriver and pry the plate up. It is held in with plugs instead of screws. With that up you will see the rear screw for the kick plate.

With the panel out of the way you will see the CPM mounted to the side panel with 3 plugs going into it. You will be working with the large gray plug and the bottom white plug. I found it easier to remove all 3. They are just held in by a little clip on the side that you push in as you pull on the plug. Once the plugs are out you need to find the white wire with the brown stripe in the gray plug, and the white wire with the violet stripe in the white plug. These are the two wires that you are going to splice together.

In order to remove the wires you will need to take a very small screwdriver and pull the two connector (clip) holders out of the plugs. There is one in each plug.

I tried several ways to get the connectors out after I pulled the holders out a little ways, but ended up getting a pair of needle nose pliers and giving the wire a quick yank. Then they popped right out. If anyone finds a better way of getting the wire out let me know and I will update these instructions.

With the wires removed from the plugs you need to get a piece of wire to connect the two connectors. Some people have uses paper clips, I found a piece of copper wire from some wiring that I had laying around the shop. I inserted the wire into one connector and then bent the end of the wire in a U shape. Then I inserted the wire into the other connector and did the same making sure the connectors were tight together. After wrapping the wires in electrical tape I had the finished product as shown in the picture above. It probably would have been wise to use some shrink tube to help hold the connectors together nice and tight, but I did not have any and figured I could go back and fix it if this didn’t work.

All that is left is to replace the plugs where they originally came from, put the panel back in place and test the lights. You should have fog lights with both high and low beams. On my 2001 it would be hard to leave the fog lights on since they are part of the headlight switch and you still get the audible ding when you leave your headlights on. Also, with this type of switch you can’t just run the fog lights without at least your marker lights on.

Here is a cut copy paste from aposting that I had sometime ago.
This is referencing the 2001 Dakota Wiring diagrams in the Service Manual.

1) Locate the Central Timer Module. It is in behind the drivers kick panel. It is a black box about 4" X 4". It has three connectors on it. C1, C2 & C3. You only need to concern yourself with C1 (top 26 pin connector) and C3 (bottom 12 pin connector.
2) Remove or cut wire from pin 22 of the C1 connector. It will be a white/tan wire.
3) Remove or cut wire from pin 8 of the C3 connector. It will be a White/Violet wire.
4) Splice these two wires together.

The modification is complete. It takes all of about 10 minutes to accomplish without any tool but a wire stripper, crimper, cutter. If you choose to remove pins instead of cutting wires this can be done also, however it requires a bit more time and effort.
The Timer Control Module controls the fog lamp relay, it also senses the high beam position of the headlamp switch. By performing this mod you are essentially bypassing control of the Fog Lamp Relay directly to the Fog Lamp Switch.
This will allow use of you fog lights on either high or low beam... This works very nicely!!
