Subject: American Eagle 589 wheel problems??? IP: Logged
Message: Hey, I've heard that AE 589's are hard on the front suspension. Anyone been running 589's? Problems? They are priced pretty good and I was thinking I'd buy a set, to replace my stock wheels. Opinions?

Message: Don't get them. The backspacing is 3.75" compared to 5.5" stock, which means they'll stick out more. Not only will they rub if you don't trim the fender wall, you'll be putting 3x as much stress on your ball joints.

Message: American Racing Baja rims look similar to 589's but have 5.5 backspacing like stock wheels. That's your best bet, but they cost more.

Message: Check out my page for a picture of the AR Baja's. I think they look good on a 4x4 with bigger tires. Try checking out the Dakota section of cardomain.com for some ideas. Some R/T rims would look good on a 2wd. If you want something unique, you'll have to search around, but you can find some sweet looking wheels that not too many people have. Just remember they have to have the 6 on 4.5 bolt pattern.

Message: If you don't do any serious off roading, the backspacing on the 589's won't stress your ball joints too much. They will some obviously, but nothing I would be concerned over. If they were so bad, no one would buy them and AE wouldn't make them.

Message: I have a 1990 2wd with AR Nitros. 15x7 with a 3 3/4 backspacing. I have had them for about 5 years now and they havent caused any problems. All my tires wear evenly, etc. Even with a 2in susp/3in body lift they are no problem. If you ever plan to run larger tires or wier tires, you need a rim in the 3.75 in BS area. The 5.5 stockers just dont allow for much room near the frame. Good luck.
