 Subject: Washing my truck.

I recently just bought a 98 dak ext cab. Had to wash it and I went out a bought one of those turtle wax washing mits. So I washed it and it left some marks on the hood and I was pissed. But now that I look at it I think they were already there and the truck was just to dirty to see them. There aren't any other marks from the mit anywhere else on the truck. What are some suggestions though. Best things to wash and dry your dakota with? E-mail me or leave a post thanks. PeAcE.

last yr I went dear hunting with my truck, cost me a new paintjob and a few parts. The guy who painted my truck told me to use an old clean cotton tshirt. Never use a sponge or a washmit,synthetic or not, they trap dirt which causes scratches. The new paint is almost as old as the original paint and looks like brand new, no swirl marks or scratches. By the way it is black and we all know how black shows scratches. I wash the top first, rinse it off then wash between the top and the door trim, then lastly i wash below the door trim. the only drawback i can see from the tshirt is that it doesnt like to hold soap like a sponge or mit does.

If you properly wax on, wax off, then you won't swirl when you wash, grasshopper!

when my truck is that dirty, i take it to one of those do it yourself touchless places. then i'll take it home to wash it good.

I use an old cloth diaper (unused & clean you sickos) and a shammy, that seems to work just fine. Of course I work at a body shop so if I screw it up its no biggie.

I have a Black Dak, it is tough to keep the scratch's off. I use a lambs wool mit also, not the cheap ones. I like Meguiars products, the Meguiars scratch remover works for me, its not a rubbing compound but it will remove all the clearcoat scratchs.

Why bother washing with soap or using wax? Soap is a detergent and leaves a film no matter what they say...and as for wax, what do you think clearcoat is for?....I bought my 2002 new and have had it for a year and it looks showroom shine still..All I use is a hose, with one of those soft brushes connected to it. make sure you spray the truck first and let it sit to loosen off dirt,spray again and wash and brush and dry with a top quality shammy...That will do it ...Never got a scratch yet

micro scratches is the keyword here everyone has them,EVERYONE!and i will prove anyone wrong who debates otherwise,microscratches AKA spiderwebs/swirlmarks.next time your paint is clean( to you )pull it under a fluorescent street light at night and look at the paint from different angles.you have them im sure from the methods and products everyone uses.unless your vehicle never sees the road or sun and its in a bubble,water and a brush aint cutting it,and meguiars is ok if you never want to have your vehicle painted again,all theyre products are synthetic polymers most with petroleum distilliates that dont bond to the paint and if you ever need your vehicle repainted the new paint wont bond to the old paint because of the layer of crap between it and the old paint. it happened to me on my 95 tahoe after an accident. the entire truck had to be taken down to sheet metal and started over from scratch.looked fine until a month later when the paint started to chip.go to griotsgarage.com damnit and read and invest the measley $15 for the detailers guidebook!!!
