Message: My 2001 4.7 auto shuts down around 95-98 mph. I discovered if I turn ignition switch to start and hold it there the speedo drops to zero but the truck will continue to accelerate. I can't tell how fast but the tach still indicates. Maybe useful if you really need to go faster !!!

Message: Guys? Do you not know that vehicles with automatic trannies have a lock out feature that will not engage the starter unless the vehicle is in park or neutral? It has been that way ever since I can remember. But it sure would suck if the lockout did'nt work!
The post sure was funny though. I don't know anyone who would test this theory while doing 95-98 miles an hour. But then again I don't know anyone from Arkansas either.
Hey wdv8,
The easiest way to get around the speed limiter is to drive in reverse, and when you hit 60, engage overdrive. That should get you to around 110-112 mph.

Now smart a _ _ es figure out how to go faster than 98 mph yourselves.
I did and it's not by holding ignition switch to start or flashing PCM.
Maybe I,ll catch one of you out on the road and blow your doors off... last laugh on you duh !!!

Message: Judging from some of the speed vs tire rating postings I've read here, this guy should be USING his brake instead of the key trick. Please do pass me so I can see the crash show. Maybe I can use some salvageable parts off your truck. Bottom line: safety! Dead Dakota Brothers are of little use.

Message: LMAO. I would suggest you take that cat to the vet. Did you run it over doing 98, or was the tach just still 'indicating'? If you had both hands on the wheel going that fast you may have missed it. Sorry for the kitty. I'm done with this thread. Have a nice day.

Message: From my experience and from some customer complaints, the engine shut down at like 94-98 is part of the 4.7, auto package. I think the 4.7 with a manual shuts down at like 115-120mph. At this time, I have not found a way around this problem.
