I finally got out and drove a new Ram 1500 Quad cab with a Hemi. I'm not sure what I was expecting when I stepped on it, but I was a little disappointed. I just thought 345 hp would be a little more impressive when you mash the gas from a dead stop, even on a heavy vehicle. It had 3.92 gearing. I really wish they made it with a manual tranny. Just thought I would share.

That is what I noticed aswell, the hype is deceiving. I thought it would start to pull harder once I got going and it did but no where near what I thought it would.

Don't the hemi's have some sort of throttle/traction control on them? I noticed the Hemi I drove when they first came out wasn't the beast off the line it should have been.

I had a new Quad Cab Hemi 4x4 for two days last week while my Dak was in getting the ball joints replaced and I too wasn't impressed. It didn't pull hard off the line at all and man, what a phuqin' pig on gas. Nice ride but line it up beside my Dakota and the smaller, lighter Dakota will win every time. On a positive note, what a great exhaust tone! Imagine a MBRP dual system on that engine? WOW!

Aaron

Well gang. Thats whats happens when you put a car engine under the hood of a truck. At 345 HP the engine has to REV up to 4400 RPMs just to reach the tourqe peak. And thats just not what you want when you tow a trailer or like to go off-road.

I test drove a new F-150 and I was very impressed with its low end tourqe. The new 5.4 3v OHC motor puts out 300 ftlbs of tourqe at just 1,000 Rpms.

It dosn't have the HP as the Hemi magnum (300) but comes within 1

I agree, the exhaust note was sweet! They do make a 5 speed for the Hemi, but it is a 5-speed automatic. I can't help but wonder though, what a supercharger would do to a Hemi Ram. It was a beautiful truck though, and definitely pulled harder than my father's '01 Ram 5.9 OffRoad. He's even got a few mods on it. Still, I was expecting at least a chirp from 20' Goodyears.

i drove a hemi quad cab rear wheel drive and it easily chirped the tires from a stop whenever i wanted and it had good overall power for such a hevy truck. however it definately wouldnt beat my r/t even when that was stock.

As I was going to say. It comes within 10 lbs shy and also 300 lb ft of the engines tourqe is at 1000 RPMs.

I also test drove the Ram 1500 but the ride to me on the F150 "04" is even better because of the out board shocks.

From what I've learned, these engines don't start to shine until after a good 3 to 4000 mile break in. Are all these reviews based on a test drive with a 0 mile engine?

The Hemi I had was a rental and it had 10,000km's on it. I would say it was past it's break in period.

I'm still at least a few months away from having to make a decision anyways. I think I will see if I can find one past its break-in period to drive. The one I drove marked 11 miles.

I test drove one but it was a RC 1500 Hemi. It seemed pretty good to me. I didnt get on it to much since the sales person didnt look to relaxed. In the quarter they run a 15 flat and 0-60mph in 6.8. Id say that was pretty good for a fullsize pickup considering its not supercharged.

Wow, 6.8 seconds? That wasn't a 4x was it? I kinda need the 4 wheel drive.

Nope, it was the lightest version. A Ram 1500 Regular cab two wheel drive with the 20s. Id imagine that the 17s are lighter and then the truck would be a little faster. 4 wheel drive RC .....probably mid to high 7 secs to 60mph. Still not to shabby.

Well that not to bad. The R/T Dakota rockets to 60 in a shade over 7 secs.

Also, I think the F150's about matches the Hemi 1500's.

I would like to see T.T comapare the two.
