Subject: NVLD = natural vacuum leak detection
IP: Logged

Message:
I replaced the purge solenoid but it didn't help
the check engine light and the code of P0441
came back after reset.

Now I am wondering if I should replace this
NVLD switch. I didn't find any pinches or
disconnects in the hose going to the fuel
canister either. How hard and how expensive
is to replace the NVLD.

thx,
M. Yamin

For 2001 it reads:

P0441: Evap purge flow monitor

Set Condition:
After having passed the Leak detectiion pump test, no air flow through the evapoarative system is detected by the flow monitor.

Possible Causes:
Evap Canister
Wiring harness intermittant
Evap purge hose (canister to fuel Tank)
Evap Purge Hose (solenoid to canister)
Evappurge solenoid vacuum supply
Evap purge solenoid (leaky /Stuck open)
Evap purge solenoid (stuck closed)

Thanks! I have now replaced the selonoid and
reset the check engine light. But the light
came back on and after going to three
autozones they all using OBD reader came up
with no codes and PASS. What gives?

My engine light keeps coming on and the code says there is a small leak in the evap system. Mechanic replaced hose ($95 worth of labor on a $7 part) and then when the light came back on he said I need an NVLD pump ($250 worth). Is he taking me?? I can't find very much info online about it.

My 2003 Neon was displaying the CEL. Replaced the Purge Solenoid, Gas Cap, and one hose between the PS and the Intake. CEL back on. Gave up, took it to a dealership and found the NVLD was stuck OPEN. Replaced that and code test cleared after 2 days of driving.

Start with checking the connection on the Leak Detection Pump. Check all the hoses connected to it too. Not sure where it's located o0n the Ram but on a Dakota it's located on the firewall just left of the brake booster. You may want to purchase Haynes or Chiltons service manual for your truck. They are only about 20 bucks.

Sorry, but can't help more than that.

Sounds like the water is stopping a small vacum leak in a cracked hose. check all the hoses around your cannister. If you haven,t already- go ahead and replace the hoses as they WILL fail.

was told by a mechanic that the gas tank had to be removed to fix my NVLD on a dodge intrepid but the mechanic reset the engine light code without fixing it first because we are waiting on the part. Is it possible for the car to pass emission now?

Not if they hook it up to the computer, as many states do now. It will show it was recently reset.
