 Subject: V6-V8 swap

who has swapped from a V6 to a V8 in a Dakota? i have a 1990 Dakota with a V6 and i want to put a 318 or 360 in it. i know ill need a new tranny and computer. what else would be involved in swapping it out, and how much do yall think it would cost? thanks

everyone and thier brother can tell me what engine/ tranny combo to use and the years, but nobody can answer the questions, like my wiring questions in a different thread, nobody that i can find took a 91-96 engine/tranny and put it into a 1988-1990

Well, actually, I have....(2001 360 Magnum into 1989 Shelby Dak), but it's carb'd and the wiring for the instruments isn't an issue, so I can't help there. One thing you could do is run the Magnum engine with the Magnum computer, and let the original PCM handle everything else. That's how it's handled in 60's-70's Magnum installations. There are some gauge issues, but fully electronic units can be installed, even matching Mopar Performance sets that'll fit your dash.

as i said in a different thread, i have the whole truck, i posted a pic of the rolled truck ina different thread
but yeah, im taking the harness and PCM and traanny and the whole works
