People who enter freeways below freeway speed (it creates a dangerous situation when 20MPH is moving into 65MPH)
And people who fail to move over for faster traffic.
I can live with no turn signals, I can live with someone driving slow on a 2 lane road. But if you can move over, move over and let faster traffic go by. Use the mirrors people!

2) People who flash their high beams at me to get into the slow lane when i'm already doing 75-80 in a 70 with cars in front of me. I slow way down for those people and don't change lanes. The Florida drivers handbook doesn't say to flash your high beams when you want the driver in front of you to get into the slower lane.
3) Tailgaters. I've made more than a few of these idiots swerve off the road for riding my bumper. At that point they stop tailgating.

With so many stupid people on the road as mentioned, it's hard not to get pissed at somone, there ARE to many F***sticks out there that shouldn't be driving, they make life hell for everybody with proper driving skills. Recently I was the victim of road rage and was almost killed, It only takes seconds for your life to change because someone, takes out their agression on you.

Old people that think that because that stopsign has only been there the last 5% of their driving life they have a 95% right to drive on through.
As mentioned, people who get to the end of an on ramp doing anything less than the cruising speed of traffic. If they would just learn to shoot the gaps as I say. No Pun intended.
Anybody that thinks it's ok to cross any lanes on the way to their final lane.
As mentioned people who try to pass everybody possible when a lane is closing. I usually get just close enough to the car in front of me to keep them from making it in front of me.
The SUV thing and that whole can of worms.
And a strong one. I can't stand law inforcement who believe that it's acceptable to drive 5 under just to get a group behind them or go 15-30 over just because they can. This just goes to show that we need more control on these vehicles and their operators.

Message: I make my living on the road, getting close to a million miles driving a big truck.
I had one accident during this time driven. It happened when I was a 'rookie' in NYC, some a-hole decided to change lanes and drove his car right into the tandem wheels of my trailer on the LIE to collect on insurance on an already damaged vehicle. Haven't had anymore accidents, *knocks-on-wood*, but there are always close calls with lunatic 'four-wheelers' (trucker's lingo for cars or any vehicle with four wheels). Sometimes they cut me off so close that I can't even see them over the hood, I imagine they're cutting in with less than a foot to spare, God help them if they miscalculate. They like to ride in the far left (hammer)lane of the interstate till they are about 100 feet from their exit and wildly cut across three lanes of traffic to get to their exit with no signal.
If you don't travel at speed with the flow of traffic you will find yourself in a world of crap in a hurry! When I first started driving (48 states & Canada) I was in a governed truck that would do 64mph. When you are in a slow truck they like to hold you 'hostage' by boxing you in and forcing you to ride at 'grandpa's speed'(55 in a 65). Another favorite tactic is dogging you, till frustrated you go to pass, then they speed up, thus making you look like a jackazz stuck out in the passing lane. It almost seems like they are playing a game with you, albeit a very deadly one. Now I can take a look in my mirrors and instinctively guess that here comes trouble, LOL.
Not too many people know that it takes the length of three football fields to stop an 80,000lb. truck traveling at highway speed. I try to keep a good following distance when driving but that's almost impossible because they keep cutting in front.
There are also lunatic truckers that I see tailgating right up the 4-wheeler's azz in traffic because they are in a big hurry. There's no excuse for that because you can't stop 80K on a dime as stated above, so God forbid if you have to panic stop you are going right over them.
Sorry 'bout the novel but It's tough out there and getting more so and I felt like venting a little myself.

Message: Having been a truck driver, I can attempt to answer that for you, but, let me forewarn you, my explanation may not seem practical to the uninitiated.
First off, you have to admit that city driving is drastically different than open-highway driving. Secondly, as BlackDak02 stated, you cannot stop a semi/TT (tractor & trailer) on a dime. Needless to say momentum & weight are huge factors here. The third point runs hand-in-hand with the previous one, and that is, given the TT weight + the cargo weight, it takes time to accelerate. So, that sudden acceleration to meet the speed & merge with another lane is pretty much out of the question. Lastly, their is the goat-factor...other drivers...more on this below...
In the city, it is easier to ride in the center lane. Why? One reason is the fact that the right-hand lane ("slow lane" -- being the common exit lane) is known to come to screeching halts from time-to-time. This in itself creates some white-knuckle situations as you are trying desperately to bring your TT to a controlled, but emergency, stop in a short space. If the roads are wet or snowy, this becomes exponentially more difficult, as the trailer's brakes could lock up, and the trailer can quickly swing to one side or the other. Needless to say, a passenger vehicle is no match for a game of tag with a loaded trailer.
The "fast lane" is typically left for the four wheelers, as they like to pop in and out of that lane in a desperate attempt to gain a car length. Not only that, but it is difficult to maintain a comfortable following distance in the fast lane, as almost everyone in a car or truck has this intrinsic need to get ahead of any semi that might be in that lane; regardless of whether or not the truck driver is going with the flow of traffic.
Now, the center lane is a different story. This is typically a transition lane. The drivers that cut in front of a semi, typically do not stay in that lane. They are intent on either heading to the fast lane or back the other way to catch an exit. So, the trucker is not quite as pressed to keep that following distance, as the car/truck that just cut in front is generally only going to be there for a few moments. To provide a wider safety margin, one learns to just stick in one of the center lanes, and keep a good following distance. This allows space for on-comers & off-goers to cut through, but more importantly, keeps the truck out of the far right-hand lane which is prone to sudden slow-downs & stops.
Now, on the open highways & interstates, the dynamics change a little. The biggest change is in the sheer volume of traffic. This gives a trucker fewer people to worry about...one does not have to worry about that actions of as many drivers. The next thing big change is in the placement of exits...city exits typically range between a 1/4 to 1 mile apart while highway exits could be 20+ miles apart. This drastically cuts down on the number of people that are trying to cut from one side of the highway/interstate to the other. There are other factors, but I think you get the idea. The bottom line is that the highways are a slightly more stable driving environment--one in which the flow of traffic makes it easier to maintain a solid speed.
I hope that all made sense...

Message: Fascinating....
I always was told semis and me when I drive stay in the middle lane due to the fact that if your in the far right lane or far left lane.(especially the right where there is usually a ditch not too far away) So that in case of an emergency on up the road or right in front of the TT the truck can dodge right or dodge left, therefore potentially doubling his chances of "surviving" the situation.
My $.02:
Semis can be a hassle, seems on my vacation travel that IN, has more semis than anywhere else. North Carolina has almost nill compared to us. They however have a job to do and at times can be very useful. I've seen more than a few times where going into construction or just a traffic jam in general where two TTs will get side-by-side and "pace" the cars behind them. You may be going 5 but the group wwwaaaayyy in front of them is going 10,stop, 8, stop. So at least your moving and saving your brakes. And They're great to slow down the morons on the road by passing each other and using 12 miles of highway to do it. Kinda fun to watch from behind as speed demons are about to go NUTS. sorry so long.

Message: Well said Halo3!
They tell you to stay to the right and I do on a 4-lane highway. But on a 6-lane where trucks are not allowed in the third lane (far left) it's a different story. It all goes back to the being held 'hostage' senario. I run the center lane in heavy traffic because from experience I know a four-wheeler will park on my rear tandems and not allow me to pass when I try to overtake a slower moving vehicle. I do not try to dog the 4-wheelers and go with the flow of traffic. I do come across the situation that 'street guy' described above, and if it is ridiculously slow and I'm empty, I have no choice but to go around on the right when it is safe to do so, giving the driver notice, because this slow truck in the middle won't yield passage. Alot of this is because the trucks behind are loaded and cumbersome, thus cannot get around easily but of course they would like to travel at a faster pace. I have no idea why this slow truck holds up traffic like this either but I will reiterate that it is not safe IMO to travel below the speed of the flow of traffic and trouble will ensue. I know it is not safe to pass on the right but not having access to the left lane handicaps us so we have no choice in the matter. It is also a real PITA dealing with merging and exiting vehicles in that right ('granny') lane. I see alot of 'professional' drivers changing lanes with no signal and that also irks me to no end, what are you supposed to do read their mind? Heck, I've seen on the interstate where they add a lane for trucks to traverse a hill and at the crest the 4-wheelers won't let them back in and some are passing on the right at high speed in the 'granny' lane reserved for trucks on the way up the hill.
"They however have a job to do and at times can be very useful." Yes 92dakotahd, your truck and all the mods you do to it, everything in your house most likely was delivered by truck. "If you have it a truck delivered it". Here's a good site with info about trucking for anybody interested.

Message: Yup, BlueCC00RT, I get that all the time also.
I also get it during a lane drop situation, I wear shades alot so they can't tell if I'm watching them or not, they tend to skedaddle when I start easing over and a hole magically appears.
Construction zones are bad also, I know what lane is closing so I get in the open lane and wait in traffic and they are usually running around me up to the cones, if I see a real aggressive a-hole he don't usually get in.

Message: Some answers to the problems, ( I don't get angry with ignorant drivers,
spent 17 years behind the wheel of TT Semi Trucks).
Speed Laws on open roads should be removed and have wide open speed limits. Then the Law enforcement officials would be able to write those tickets for slow driver in left lanes.
Change the Driving laws to match Germany where
if you get rear ended in the left lane, you are at fault not the driver hitting you in the gas hole. If you get flashed with HEADLIGHTS by a faster approaching vehicle and you don't get out of the way and no one is in front of you, to bad, you just got sued.
Reduce truck speeds to 65 mph and let law enforcement enforce it whole heartedly, and with 2 speeding tickets for truck drivers, a license suspension for a year. Ditto for Busses.
The Germans write tickets to big trucks and busses for obstructing traffic if they use the left lane to pass and block more than 5
autos.
In construction (reduced lanes) the Germans have a law that is called the
zipper, it requires a driver from each lane to go one at a time,
trucks in construction areas are required to stay in the right lane till the actual merge point, and then get in-between vehicles like a zipper (thus the term zipper) And tickets are issued if you do not yield to the next driver that is supposed to zipper in.
In reduced speed areas like highway mergers put 'Cops in a Box' Where the speed sensors clock you and take your picture and the ticket is sent to you via the postal system. Ditto for Red Lights. This leaves the Law officers with time to
enforce the real laws. (Like drug dealers and such)
Remove the combination of words 'Police Brutality' from the Dictionary.
Drivers convicted of ROAD RAGE loose their driving privileges for life.
It works here, people drive average road speeds of 110 mph and have a lot less
accidents, and the mortality rate for accidents are way under the USA. UH, maybe
the Germans actually know what's going on. Or they have just been lucky for 50 YEARS.
Just my $.02, LATER
