Subject: Rear-End Check-Up Question IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering...
I went to the dealer today to get my 12,000 mile "check-up". I got my oil changed (free) and tires rotated ($16). However, I was also told that I needed something done with the differential. He said basically that it needed to be filled with differential fluid and that they had to take off the cover too. He said the cost was $90.
My question is this: is this an appropriate price for this? BTW I have 3.55 gears and an open differential. My guess is that it is appropriate but I have had issues with this dealership before. Should I just go have them do it or should I go somewhere else to have it done?
Thanks to all.

Message: It isn't necessary that soon. I'd say its good until 30,000. That's the right price coming from a dealer. Take it to an independent shop for a better price or do it yourself. It's not very hard. Get some good synthetic gear lube, not the mopar crap.

Message: Alright, thanks for the help/advice. I think I'll wait for a few thousand miles and take it to the dealer and have them do it. I don't really like the dealer but I am too incompetent to have the confidence to change it myself. Anyway, thanks again.
