Subject: Front end Clunk Fixed IP: Logged
Message: I started having the annoying front end clunk a couple of months ago.
It progressively got worse until I decided to look into the issue. The clunk as many others describe it; happens during a corner bump combo and can be felt through the floor board.
I have changed my stock swaybar for Hotchkis aftermarket and aftermarket bushings.
The sway bar had been shifting and hitting the bracket that mounts to the frame.
After a closer look at the bar near the bracket I could see rust where the bracket had broken the paint and started wearing away at the swaybar.
I took my bar down and used a bench grinder to smooth away of the bar that came closed to the bracket. I then smoothed the grind with a hand held butterfly grinder.
The clunk is gone, and it took me about an hour to do the above mentioned.
If a factory bar is still installed replacing the bushings and centering the bar should help.
I took it one step further by allowing for more play in the bar.
Hope this post helps.

Message: Thanks for the info. My dealer has replaced the upper control arms twice. I've *suggested* other sources for the noise but they always say the ball joints are worn.
I'll crawl under and have a look at my sway bar. It still clunks, even in reverse.
