What do you use as a tie rod and ball joint lubricant?

When I was a youngin’ and living at home, I used whatever my father had in his grease gun. Now that I am older, I have the ability to choose my own grease. When I purchased the gun I think I put cheap grease in it.

When I refilled it the first time I placed Slick 50 in it. Yeah, I know that Slick 50’s Teflon will probably do more damage to an engine, but I figured large, flat pieces of slippery Teflon may do some good in tie rod ends. It seemed to do its job.

Yesterday I had to refill my grease gun again. I almost bought Slick 50 at Walmart, but the ends were all dinged up from people dropping them. This probably wouldn’t have caused a problem with the gun, but why take the chance. I purchased Mobil 1 synthetic grease at Autozone for just over $4 a tube.

Was this a good purchase? I know I won’t see power or mileage gains from synthetics in this case, but I may see a reduction in wear. If the tie rods and ball joints don’t wear as fast, that’s less wear, tear and replacement costs to deal with. Alignments are expensive!

TIA for the feedback!
