Subject: Fuel Lines 1992 Dakota
IP: Logged

Message:
The fuel return line on my 92 Dakota long bed is rusted and leaking. The other lines (feed & vent) are also badly rusted. The local Dodge dealer parts department says that these parts are no longer available. Any suggestions as to how to get replacement fuel lines for my vehicle?

There are aftermarket companys that specialize in hard lines. Not sure of the company's name, but I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find. Look for people who bend brake lines.

EBL,
I contacted Classic Tube. They can bend the lines for me; but say they are "not allowed" to do the quick connect fittings. There are two types of the quick connect fittings: one type at the fuel pump/tank interface and another at the fuel rail. Perhaps I will have to splice in new hard lines?

Maybe you can pull the quick connects off the old lines and weld?

93 also had return fuel lines so you may be able to use one as a source. 94 and up did not have return lines.

Is the return line high pressure? Could you flare the ends of the hardline that classic tube made for you and place some high pressure hose over the flares? It may be able to hold on with a quality set of hose clamps.

I've heard that some people going with NOS or superchargers have switched to the 92 or 93 fuel system since it has return lines. A call to Paxton, ATI and Vortec may supply you with a source.

Please let me know what you find out. I have a '92 also.

Might be better to double flare the lines, as with brake lines.

Salvage Yard. Wonderful place to spend a day and find those no longer produced parts.

My '92 Dakota is back on the road for less than $10! I talked with the parts man at another Dodge dealer and he suggested that I replace the braided hose with a rubber hose and clamps. I did it and it works fine. Cleaned up the other lines and reassembled everything with no leaks! Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
