Message: Are these plugs "pre-gapped" if not what does the gap need to be ? (3.9L)

Message:
No, these plugs are not pre-gapped. You'll need to check them before installing them.
If you have the stock ignition, gap them at 0.035. If you have the MSD or equilivent ignition, gap them at either 0.045 or 0.050.

Message: I am just wondering if there is any change in how much MPG's either increase or decrease you will get with the plugs since they are a colder plug?!?!?

That would depend on your driving style. Personally, I haven't seen any decrease in MPG (or increase).

Message: I have a 5.2 with the factory suggested gap of .035... With my MSD I gap them at .040 or .0425 I find that with the .040 they last longer. Not that they wear any faster, but I get a hard start and rough cold idle sooner when gapped higher than .040
Oh yeah, Ive been using the 3923's for the past 3 years or so and find it to be the best plug on the market for my engine. Has anyone tried the platinum 3923's? I'm a little wary of the platinum plugs

Message: Mark: What's the big deal with 3923's, as opposed to
say Bosch, NGK etc? what sort of difference does your
MSD ignition make as opposed to the stock one. I have
a 98 Dak 4x4 with a 3.9. Thanks

Message: I found the 3923's to run much smoother. No ping. I wouldnt consider them a high performance modification, its just that the OEM 3924's are a little too hot for the engine. All other ones Ive used were consistant with the 3924's which are one heat range hotter than the 3923's. Thats pretty much it in a nutshell.

Message: The MSD-6a ignition that I use produces a more powerful spark and three per ignition. It wears out your plugs faster. Its not really a replacement for the stock ignition, its just an add on kind of like an amplifier. In addition to that, I run the Blaster coil which has a higher voltage over the stock coil and the capacator to help with engine noise.

Message: One more thing... I bought my MSD ignition 6-7 years ago and I have to say it was the best bang for the buck. I felt immediate seat of the pants power increase not to mention a 5-10% gain in MPG. Over the past 75k miles or so that Ive been using it, every dollar was returned to me in fuel economy. I would highly recommend the MSD 6a. I believe I paid $135 or so back then with another $25 for the coil. Doing some quick math with a modest 5% gain in MPG thats approximately 250 gallons of gas saved over time.

Message: I run 3923's in my 4.7L with zero problems. I'm on my second set now. The factory Champions were gapped anywhere from .045 to .055 when I switched them out, so the morons at the factory evidently didn't bother gapping them correctly. That and when I ordered my truck, I ordered it with a 3.92 LSD and it came with a 3.55 open diff...
Must have been a Monday or Friday built truck...
At least the dealer cut me a check for the 3.92 LSD and I installed the 3.55 LSD instead.

Message: Mine came with a 3.50 open rear and I recently put in a 3.92 LSD. Much much better. My speedo is a little off though.I'm a little worried about the winter snow and how it will react. In light rain it is a whole lot of fun when the cops arent around. shhhh
Now back to Spark plugs. hahah

Message: Sildak and Smarterthanu are full of crap. 3923's have shown to help starting, acceleration and smoothness in engines that have lower thermostats (i.e. Robertshaw 180). I have just installed my second set in my '01 4.7L. This time I went with platinums only because the shop was out of normal 3923's. I think my gas mileage has gone up from 13 to about 15 mpg...maybe not due to plugs.
What ever happened to Harlow Wilcox? He'll put those two in there place!

Message: Slidak: what plugs did you have in before that were faster than the autolites?
Kryp2nite: the MSD-6AL is the same as the MSD-6 but has an rpm limiter. It costs substantially more and is not really needed for automatic trannys.

Message: Mark, Looked into the MSD, and it looks like that's what
I'll be doing next. Did you have to buy a adapter
harness to plug into your factory one, and did you
regap your plugs? How was it to install?
