Subject: Broken off header bolt... help!
IP: Logged

Message:
I have an exhaust leak, and upon search for its origin, i found that the bolt closest to the radiator on the passenger side that holds the heat shield has broken off at the tip inside the manifold. Any ideas on how to get this out? Its about a eigth of an inch down, so I cant even see it since there isnt much room in there. Can anyone help?

No biggie, all you have to do is unbolt the entire manifold from the head and the downpipe. When you pull it off, you'll see that one bolt sticking out of the head. Use some vice grips to get on it and twist it out.

Get a set of exhaust gaskets and change ALL the studs while your at it. Put some penetrating oil on the studs too, because if you break the stud off at the head like I did, its a real pain to get it out.

Can I get new bolts from an aftermarket company instead of getting mopar ones? If so, where at? Also, does anyone know if the JBA headers for the v6 come with new bolts?

The broken bolt will either be flush with the manifold or flush with the head. Either way I would weld a nut on the stud and back it oout with a wrench. If the stud is flush with the Head, weld the appropriate size(3/8) washer on the stud before you weld the nut on. The nut, along with the heat generated by the welder should make the stud come out very easy

Its just barely down past the hole in the manifold, so its not flush with the head. Ill see what happens when I replace the headers in a few months. Maybe it wont turn out so bad. Thanks for everyones help!
